We need a new oven and I'm overwhelmed with options!! We have never had convection, I'm wondering if anyone actually uses it / it's worth the extra $150-$200.

I don't use it but I have it. But I love my double. I use the smaller upper half 90% of the time and it heats up so fast.

Is that what convection is?? If so we have one, hahaha. We mostly just use the upper deck too.

@youboots: Yeah you can tell how close with the oven I am too, lol

Umm, our microwave is also a convection and I have zero idea what it does.

convection is a setting that circulates air in the oven while you are cooking. it can help cook some food faster and more evenly. it doesn't work well for everything which I learned the hard way.
Here's a short and simple article that describes when (and when not to use it)

We have it and we do use it. Its not the easiest to find an oven without it.

We use it but my husband runs a restaurant so it was a big plus for him. I don't really care either way but it is a nice feature to have.

@youboots: you just blew my mind, I didn't even know this was thing! Is the main benefit that you can cook at different temperatures / save gas because you are heating a smaller part if only using one?
@CakeLady: Thank you for the article! This is just what I needed to know

Yes --both ovens on our houses have had it. I use it for cookies/baking, especially for the evenness of cooking multiple trays at once.

Yes! I've found that it foods cook faster because it circulated the air. I usually turn it on when in a time crunch.

Yes! I love the confection setting, especially when roasting chicken. The skin gets really crispy and it bakes faster. Worth it (but we love to cook).

We had it on our old oven and used it all the time. I miss it and will definitely want to get it when out current one kicks it.

@NorCalWayfarer: I'm jealous you have two ovens! We just don't Have enough wall space in our open plan kitchen for two ovens. One design regret.

@HappyBaker: it's the best thing ever. More efficient and makes it easy to cook at different temps. It's awesome.

I never use convection. I don't bake or cook that much, truth be told.
I also have the dual oven range and we love it. I basically only use the top single rack portion.

I use convection all the time. I love it. I have to drop the temp setting about 25 degrees because things tend to cook a little faster. The BEST use of convection is that I can bake three sheets of cookies at the same time without having to rotate the pans. The fan really helps to circulate the air around which gets rid of hot spots. Same with cakes, roasting veg or chicken. I pretty much have it turned on whenever I'm cooking in the oven.

We have convection but I've never used it. You guys are making me want to go cook something now!

I usually only use it when I'm roasting veggies and potatoes as they cook faster. I'll have to try using it for baking!

I think I have it and I've never used it and you guys are convincing me I should!

We have a mid-level oven with convection. We bake ALOT and have not found the convection to be a great asset.
