So, this study just came out today from the New England Journal of Medicine. The link will take you to the summary, but I believe you can subscribe for free to read the entire article. Basically, a study was done in women with PCOS and Femara seemed to have better pregnancy outcomes than Clomid. I thought other bees might be interested too.

Very interesting! I liked Femara better (although neither got me pregnant)

@dagret: Really?! That's pretty awesome. I thought it was pretty interesting considering how much more prevalent clomid seems to be vs. femara.

@Hoots: Clomid's much more common because it's older, but I bet as time goes on Femara will take over. It's actually not even classified as a fertility drug - it's a cancer drug.

@Hoots: my RE prefers to prescribe Femara over Clomid due to the side effects. He explained that there were not enough studies completed to show the efficacy of Femara as a fertility drug and the drug company itself is making more than enough money with Femara as a cancer drug. This study looks promising for women whose insurance does not cover Femara due to its classification as a cancer drug.

I was given Femara because supposedly it didn't hurt lining as badly. Lol...my lining never went above a 6, even after Femara when I did 2 injectables! estrogen patches were the cure for me when we did our FET.

@Shutterbug: I did not know that. I haven't looked into either drug very much and don't really plan to unless I need to go down that route, but the study did catch my eye.

@Shutterbug: nope, different study! I was in the AMIGOs Study, which should be coming out shortly. It looked at clomid vs femara vs something injectable - the purpose was to get the most successful, singleton pregnancies.
In my study, I think I got Femara, not clomid. My symptoms were so much better.

Wow, that's interesting! My RE never mentioned Femara, only Clomid. Wonder if many RE's now will start prescribing Femara. Sounds great!

My RE likes to start with Clomid. But whe I became Clomid resistant she switched me to Femara. I did get pregnant on both (first was a CP) and didn't really have side effects with Clomid.
