D was 3 weeks on Thursday and still has his. I can't wait for it to fall off so we can give him a real bath - he HATES the sponge baths, I think because he gets cold!

5 days. I was freaked out that it was too early, but like most things, I was more worked up about it than LO was.

It was right around 2 weeks. I may or may not have used a q-tip to clean it out and loosen it a bit. Ultimately it came off on it's own though.

@MaisyMay: Our ped has had us cleaning it with a q-tip and alcohol from day 1, so lately I've really been trying to get in there and "deep clean."

FWIW we didn't wait to give either of our kids baths. I have heard that is an outdated recommendation!

About 10 days but it may have been due to friction with his clothing because there was a bit of dry blood on his clothing for a couple of days afterwards.

@littlebug: when we gave LO sponge baths, we would warm up the room with a space heater. We also kept him wrapped up in a towel and only uncovered the part that was being sponged. It was definitely a two man job. LO seemed to be really enjoy his sponge baths and would always quiet down even if he was crying while we undressed him. Maybe you could try that and see if that would help your LO?

@NerdBee: I do keep him covered during the bath, but haven't tried a space heater. I keep the bathroom door shut for a while before I give him a bath, though, so it's usually pretty warm in there. We don't have a space heater, unfortunately.

2 weeks. I used a qtip and alcohol and wiggled it gently. In the end it came off while she was rolling around in her bassinet.

DD didn't lose the majority of hers until 3 weeks, and then it took another solid week for the rest of the gunk to come out. We were using alcohol wipes a few times a day too!

@Minnie_Girl: yes! It's really dry and hard on the outside but when I clean the other side it's still kinda funky. !
