A combo of prefolds and covers, disposables, Thirsties AIO size 1 and BG newborn. I liked prefolds a lot since I was changing dispers all the time and they wash/dry really fast!

Tri-folded prefolds/covers and I had one BG AIO. I really liked the AIO, but I would have had to purchase a ton of them so I wouldn't be doing laundry every day.

We did Applecheeks because they are Size 1 and Size 2. So the size 1's fit right away (8-9lbs). They are pockets or you can use them like a cover and use a pre fold or flat laid on top. They worked great!

We rented 30 bum genius newborn all in ones. We really liked them a lot she was 6 pounds 10 ounces and was back at birth weight with in 5 days. At 7 weeks she was 11 pounds and while we could still put them on her, they didn't hold enough liquid to make them a reasonable option. I would say six weeks was about the max in them in regards to holding enough. I would definitely use them again.

I have an almost 3 week old , and once his umbilical cord came off and his little circumcision was healed (about a week), I started with mixed stash. I have 3 aio and they are easiest and cutest, but they leak easily and it's so depressing when they pee or poo mid diaper change! It doesn't bother me as much with my prefolds. The prefolds are pretty easy for me, but my so hasn't tried any of the cloth aside from removing them and putting on a disposable. The thing that bothers me is how giant all my newborn sized covers are on him! They are a variety of brands but they all seem to go halfway down his thighs! The fitted diapers I got from GMD are super easy and hold it all in well, but they make the cover even bulkier. My trimmest and softest diaper cover is the bummis newborn super whisper I think.

He's long and was 7 lbs 9 oz at birth, and now he's about 9 lbs. They do leak occasionally, but his honest newborn diapers also leak so much (we were gifted 6 packs so I am determined to use them up!)

I can't imagine his pockets and other one size diapers on him right now! They would look gigantic. His newborn pants already are stretched out depending on which diaper I put on him. And his 0-3 m pants will be tight at waist and huge in legs with his bulkier diapers on.

We used Blueberry Simplex AIO newborn size. I picked up a dozen of them at one of their seconds sales and that was all we needed. We were able to use them for about 3 months.

I have a preemie, so even though we didn't start cloth diapering until he was 4 months old, he still was too small for OS diapers. We started at 9 lbs, but his legs are really skinny which made the OS diapers not fit. We ended up getting Kawaii newborn diapers which I really like because they go up to 22 lbs. So, they will last a lot longer than a typical newborn diaper. They are pocket diapers. You can get them with microfiber inserts, but I like to use Thirsties hemp inserts since they absorb more. I wouldn't invest in the Thristies inserts unless you're going to use them for awhile though. We also started using Grovia AI2s with the Grovia organic cotton soakers. They started fitting at around 10 lbs. We use a mix of both now.

Also, do I really need Snappis or diaper pins? Both options sound like a pain! I naively thought I could just fold the inserts to work...

@meredithNYC: I think you should be good with that plan, the issue is less them getting wet and more them getting poop on the cover. If they just feel wet you can let them air dry and alternate between two or three covers.

You don't need a snappi but for the $3 you should buy one. I find that for the little poops a snappi-ed diaper cover is more likely to be reusable. We have one and I have yet to wish I had a second one so it's a worthwhile couple of dollars.

ETA- have you checked around for a rental program though? Mine was only $60 for thirty aio newborns for six weeks. The store didn't even have it on their website so call the stores worth cloth diapers within an hour or so of you and ask if you might be interested.

@meredithNYC: I like using snappis with prefolds because poop was so runny in the NB days with my LOs.

@Mrs. Lion: it was a brilliant move on their part too- it was easy to convince my husband and then they offer to give you your deposit back with a 10% bonus if you take it on a store gift card. At that point we took the ten percent and bought the rest of al our diapers and Christmas gifts from them!

Do the lil joeys work on bigger babies? DS was 9 lbs at birth, so I'm not expecting a small little brother, though you never know. I bought a stash of them used for a RIDICULOUSLY cheap price. I couldn't say no. I'm hoping they work for bigger babes though cause they look so tiny!!!
