My LO is one week old. She's doing the expected nap for a few hours schedule day and night. My question for the hive is whether where we have her sleep matters at this point? I've just been essentially having her with me, because I'm EBF. So for most of the day and into the evening she's downstairs with me, napping in the rock and play. The TV is on, the lights are on, we're talking etc. Then when I'm ready for bed or she seems like she might be ready to do a long stretch of sleep, we move upstairs.
Is this a bad habit? Should we try to move to the bedroom around 8pm everyday and tone things down, something like that? Any other thoughts?
That's the nature of newborn sleep and it sounds like you're doing all the right things. Honestly, at this point it's just about survival and doing whatever works to get you the most sleep. Babies' sleep starts to get more organized over the coming weeks and you can start to establish a bedtime routine around six weeks.
