These are probably stupid questions but I'm new at this!
-How often do/did you bathe your newborn?
-Once you started bathing in a tub/sink, did you put soap directly on washcloth/baby or did you add to the water in the tub?

When DS was a newborn we did baths a couple times a week. We just put the soap on our hands aand rubbed it on and used a facecloth to rinse him off.

We currently do what they showed us in the hospital, which is to put shampoo on a wet wash cloth and lather up his head over a bowl, and rinse it all out using a washcloth. Then we use that somewhat soapy water to wash off his body. We do hair every day (it's oily and he has a lot) and body baths every other day since he's always getting milk on him!

When dd was a newborn she would get a bath about 2-3 times a week (would get a wipe down everyday though) and from memory we hardly ever used soap, we usually just used warm water and used a washcloth to wash her.

We did baths once a week because of dry skin and hair. I put the soap on the cloth.

We bathed our newborn 1-2x a week until she was 4 or 5 months. We would do a daily scrub down of the neck rolls with a washcloth and warm water but other than that as long as you are cleaning up after diaper situations well they don't get that dirty. We would put the soap on the washcloth (and still do).

We do bath or shower every night as part of our bedtime routine. However, we only use soap/shampoo (rubbed on our hands and then on DD) every three or so days, the rest of the time we just use plain water.

Newborn--once every few days. We did soap on a washcloth or right on Lo. Around 8 wks we started doing bath daily as part of bedtime routine.

for the first few weeks, i gave LO a sponge bath with a damp washcloth. he was not a fan--i think it was too much exposure to the air. when we started using his infant bathtub, we did baths about 2 or 3 times a week. by 2 or 3 months old, we were doing bathtime almost every night.
this is embarrassing, but i didn't start using soap until he was about 4 months old--i would just wipe him down really well all over with a washcloth in the bath. now i apply the soap to my hands, rub him down, and rinse off with a wet washcloth. i drain the bath, and we have a flexible showerhead that i use for a final rinse (since the water is soapy at that point).

Sponge bath (washcloth and water) until umbilical cord comes off. After that I gave DD a bath in infant tub filled with water and a tiny bit of soap on a sponge, about once a week. Now she gets a bath every other night.

We did every 2 or 3 days at the beginning. Soap goes in the water in the tub. Around 8 or 9 weeks we started bath every night to establish a routine but only used soap every other time so it wouldn't dry her out. Then at 12 weeks we started soap every night since she is in day care.

With a newborn, folds of skin that might get milk in them are the things you really have to watch out for (neck creases especially). Those you might even want to wipe with a wet cloth once a day depending on your baby. Beyond that, if your baby likes baths and doesn't dry out from them, you can do them more often. If, like most newborns, your baby is not a fan, once a week is good enough. I just took Lorelei in the shower with me in a water wrap. I used my hands to rinse her with water while she was in the wrap, and washed my own hair. I rarely use soap on any of us because we are prone to dry skin and it's not really necessary. As for shampoo, Lorelei goes about two weeks in-between, but we rinse her head with water every time she gets bathed.

Newborn we did bath every 2-3 days (sometimes more because they calmed her down, and we were desperate to try anything at times!) We started doing every day at 8 weeks because 1) she loved them & 2) it helped wind her down.
We put the soap in the water until about 4 months, and then I started to put it directly on the washcloth!

We did a bath 2-3 times a week, and put the soap directly in the water. Now at 5 months I still add the soap to the water but I also apply soap directly to her hair
