I have a question for cloth diapering mamas (and dads!) about night diapering. Our daughter just recently started sleeping through the night. Yay! But she's such a super soaker than our BumGenius pocket diapers with two large-sized inserts can't contain all of her pee. She keeps waking up wet, and I'm desperate for a solution. I'm going to see if a disposable diaper works tonight -- do you think it will? ...But I'm hoping in the long run to find a solution that involves cloth. Any advice?

Hemp. We would do a regular insert and a hemp insert underneath for night time. The hemp will hold more but takes a little longer to soak in. If you are using one-size diapers, you can let them out one size as well (allow some airflow and room).
Ultimately for our son, we do disposibles at night. He was just fighting too many rashes.

Ugh, I am not loving my BG's right now even for daytime let alone night time!
We have had a lot of luck with a GroVia with a booster added at night. Also, a organic Flip insert seems to be more absorbent. I also love my Thirsties at night!

Nothing works for us overnight... and he doesn't even sleep through the night! not 2 cloth, not cloth + liner, not disposable insert (gDiaper), regular disposable (Pampers, Teddy's, Generics from the Marine exchange in size 1 and 2).... when he's going to leak, he's going to leak. I just started using something on top of the sheet to absorb it. We do a lot of laundry in this house!

If you go to disposables, the size up may help. My son is teeny (19#) but wears a size 4 (22-30something #) overnight.

Is your LO skinny? If you go the disposables route, try Pampers Cruisers. They're cut slimmer but still hold a lot of urine.

@autumnlove: Umm, we use the snap in soakers that are TPU backed and then add in a booster between the layers.

It's important to put them under the regular MF insert because MF is a fast absorber and hemp is a slow absorber (absorbs pee from the microfiber). Makes for a heavy diaper in the morning but it works! I wanted to really avoid disposables at night because the way I saw it was ~12 hours overnight = half the time in a disposable

@skibobrown: LO is just 3 months, but I have 12 hour success with Bum Genius with an 'overnight soaker pad' added. I am pretty sure it is cotton. I bought them with my first order of cloth diaper stuff and I actually now have no idea what the brand was or anything.

@pastemoo: I use a gdiaper flushable insert for overnight...it is very full in the morning but no leaks so far so I'm surprised that it's not working for you :(. My LO is 8 months and is STTN and in size medium gpants right now. How old is your LO? After her bath, lotion and pjs we put her in a gcloth and then she nurses. After she is done nursing I change her one last time and put her in a gfill...I just try to make doubly sure she has a dry diaper when I put her down for the night.

Reporting back in from last night...
We tried a regular disposable last night, and DD woke up totally soaked this morning. Ugh. I'm off to the cloth diaper store this afternoon to purchase some hemp inserts, and I'm hoping that will work better, otherwise I'm going to try a larger size of disposable diaper...

We use a BG Elemental with a BG doubler laid over it; I've found that the cotton inside absorbs really well.

@sandy: It worked for a while, but now he is really between a small and a medium--we're using the small snap in liner and the medium cover right now and sometimes it leaks and sometimes it doesn't. Hopefully as he grows a little more he will leak less and less.
LO is 2 months and 13 lbs 5 oz. The newborn ones worked great, and then when they didn't fit, the bigger ones worked for a while but he started leaking the smalls before we realized they were just too small for him.FWIW, he leaks disposables, too. And if i forget to point his penis down/to a side, then he leaks anything, no matter what kind of diaper. You'd think I'd remember every time to dress him to one side by now, but I still forget.

We had the same problem. He still leaks. But I do want to try bamboo or hemp inserts. Minky inserts are a little more absorbent too. We also double up inserts.
I have used Honest Company and Seventh Gen diapers at night and both worked well. But I don't want to have to buy sposies just for night when I spent so much on cloth.
