At least she goes! My 6 year old still doesn't wake up to go potty...

I think it's just a developmental thing that will happen with time. She is still really young! I honestly would not trust either one of my boys to go potty by themselves in the middle of the night at that age.

How close is your room to hers? Could you just call out to her "You can go potty by yourself!"? I would start by not going into her room and not tucking her back in. Then try to be further and further away each time and remind her she doesn't need to tell you unless she's going poop (I assume she still needs help wiping).

@pinkarmadillo: If your sleep is the priority (and you have every right to make it so) maybe try putting a potty in her room or doing a sticker chart for when she goes alone. I would lean towards the sticker chart except my kids would wake me up to get the sticker.

B is 4.5 and he just started doing this by himself, and it’s probably only one time out of five that he does. I would say it just takes time?

@pinkarmadillo: my son isn’t ready for this, but I don’t think you’re expecting too much. My best friend’s 3 year old does all night time potting by herself, so I don’t think it’s out of the question, just depends on the kid. How you’ve described it she sounds ready and maybe just needs coaching/ reassurance/ permission? I’d tell her at bedtime that if she wakes up and needs to potty, she can go all by herself now! She can call fornyou if she needs help, but she’s proven she is such a big girl that you know she can do it! If she still wakes you up, but she just wants you there but otherwise does it herself, I’d keep saying “you did it all yourself, great job! You don’t need to wake mommy up anymore next time!” I think eventually it will stick. At least that is where I’d start.

@pinkarmadillo: DD at that age was scared of the dark so we put a night light in the bathroom and then she was fine to go alone. I would tell her she is a big girl now and can go alone at night and just have a light on for her
