I love the name Nina but I don't think I want it as the official first name. What are some names that Nina could be a nickname of? My mom suggested Kristina....I don't know if I can see Nina coming from that!

Maybe: janine, annina, nicolina, evelina, stefanie/stefania, katerina, karenina?

My full name is Christina, and my parents have called me Tina ever since I was a baby... I would have preferred Nina!!
I also thought Janine.

I like janine, but Nina is fine as a first name, it doesnt have to be a nickname

@JustlikeHeaven: haha she is amazing and beautiful!
I like Nina as a stand alone name, personally

Another vote for just making the first name Nina! I've always assumed it was a stand alone name and not a nickname for something else.

I like Nina as a standalone name better than the "long versions." But if you really don't like it... there is also Sabrina, Marina, Serena that could work.

I know someone with the legal first name as Nina. I think it works fine on it's own!

I love the name Nina, it was on our shortlist. I don't think it needs to be a nickname.

Nina is a common name among Filipinas. Two close people in my life are Nina's. One has Nina as her legal first name and the other as a nickname (her legal name doesn't sound like Nina at all, but it means "little girl" in our culture; she was nicknamed that since she's the first girl in her family).

NINA IS A SUPER CUTE FIRST NAME BY ITSELF.
I ALSO LOVE THE NAME MARINA, BUT BECAUSE I LOVE THE WATER AND BEING OUT ON THE BOAT. I LIKE IT'S "MARINE" IMPLICATIONS.
SORRY FOR THE CAPS. PHONE IS BROKEN.

Oh also wanted to add that I love the names Nina and Lina, but I couldn't choose one of those because it would rhyme with my own name (Tina) and that's just a little too cutesy

I like Nina on it's own too.
I think anything that ends in the "ina" sounds. Serena, Evelina, Angelina, Catrina, Serafina, etc.

I had an Aunt Nina that it wasn't short for anything and I went to school with a Nina not short for anything. I think it can stand alone!
Funny thing though... my Aunt Nina was not pronounced "Knee-na", but "Nigh-nah"... Good old Southern/Country pronounciation You won't run into that issue though, I've never heard anyone else say it that way!

@CarrieLouWho: My mom's coworker pronounced it the same way as your aunt!

@AutumnLove - hilarious! I never knew anyone else to say it that way!
