I have actually heard of this, but not sure why this is a design tip. We don't have framed photos in our living room, but our wedding photo album is on the coffee table.

I have heard this for selling purposes..so people can imagine their family in the home and not the sellers. but not just generally..
I have pictures EVERYWHERE. haha!

I could see if your house is up for sale (and then I would take them down in general, not just in the living room), but for normal living? Why the heck not?

Hmm, I've never heard of this except for like what @sorrycharlie said, when selling a house.
