Just wanted to say that I am so sorry for your loss. I personally wouldn't want to wait for it to happen naturally. I am sorry you have to make this decision.

@Makingbabyw: I am so, so sorry you are going through this. I don't have any great advice about what choice to make, just wanted to express my sympathy. As for your friend's baby shower, if you don't mind sharing with her, don't be afraid to be open. If you are too upset to face attending, just be honest and tell her, and I imagine she will understand. I would never fault someone for not coming to a shower for that reason.

I'm so sorry that you received this horrible news today. It's so hard.

I've had two early miscarriages. The first one I opted for a D&C because I couldn't imagine just waiting to miscarry naturally. The second time my doctor recommended I take misoprostol. I had an incomplete miscarriage and ended up having to have a D&C anyway 3 weeks later. It was a drawn out, horrible process. I'm sure whatever you choose will work out.

My last loss was at 12 weeks - went in for my ultrasound and no heartbeat. Had recently happened because baby was measuring on track.
I schedule a D&C for two days later. I couldn't handle waiting until it happened naturally. It didn't help me start healing emotionally any quicker, but at least my body was able to quicker.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I would reach out to a trusted friend or family member for support. You don't have to go to the baby shower if you don't think you can handle it. Try to heal and focus on yourself!

Im so sorry. I opted to have a D&C so that I could get it over with. I couldn't handle the being pregnant but not being pregnant.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I had the exact same thing happen last year. As hard as it is to believe, it'll be okay.

As far as how to miscarry, it is so personal. I waited a week to see if my body would do it naturally and then had a D&C. It's a real mind bender to wait it out (can I drink? I want a bottle of wine, but it feels so wrong) and I was still getting morning sickness. The D&C was so final. It helped.

As far as the baby shower, tell your friend what happened. Go, don't wear mascara, and give yourself permission to leave at any time. Or to break down in the bathroom. It'll be hell, but you'll regret not being there.

I am so so sorry. This happened to me in April as well. I chose to take misoprostol to pass it on my own and it was the right choice for me. Keeping you in my thoughts.

@Makingbabyw: doctors may have been advocating not to have a d&c becsuse of the size/age of the fetus and/or because it's good practice to avoid surgery if you can. I took miso (pills inserted by dr)for my second mc at 10 weeks. It was quick and somewhat painful, but over within a couple of hours. Hugs!

@Makingbabyw: For me, I drank a bottle of wine and had a raging hangover at work the next day I don't recommend either (working or a hangover).

Depending on how old the fetus is, the risks of the D&C outweigh the benefits. My doctors say they start recommending it at 9-10 weeks. I was at 9 weeks exactly, so I had options. I'd recommend not waiting and take the meds. The reason why we went for a D&C over the meds is that I would know it was over. If I were to do it again, I'd take meds

As far as telling people, I recommend doing it as you feel comfortable. I have told several people and I'm always surprised at how many people have gone through it.

I am very very sorry for your loss. I also had the same thing and I cried for a very long time. I opted for the d&c because I didn't want to be pregnant anymore and thought mis carrying naturally would be more traumatizing. we didn't tell hardly anyone and it was ok that we didn't. My husband and I leaned on each other instead. I don't know if this helps, but it did for me. I kept saying that if this miscarriage is part of our journey to having a LO then I will suffer through it because having a LO is what is most important and rewarding. Continually thinking this wasn't an end and only a stepping point helped my grieving process. I hope that you can find some comfort

I had a natural miscarriage but not by choice. It was a very difficult time for me, and I still get sad thinking back on that time. *big hugs*
