I definitely wouldn't want to pump in the bathroom. Have you discussed with your work at all? Even tho they're not required, would they be willing to provide you with a room. Another option is maybe using a cover and pumping in your office. That might be a pain and I'm not sure how your coworkers would feel.

Is there a small conference room you can use? Or maybe a private office that isn't occupied that you can borrow?

Check about a small conference room, see if there are other workers whose offices would be available on the days you work that perhaps you could use or ask your co-worker to step out of the office for the times you need to pump (someone at my office currently does this and I did this on occasion when our conference room wasn't available).

I've had to pump in the bathroom when at a conference and a tip I can share (if you have to go that route). If the toilet has a tank (like most house toilets), sit facing the wall and use the tank as a shelf to hold your pump, while not all that comfortable i found it easier than trying to balance my pump on my knees.

I exclusively pumped and had work with whatever situation I was in when I left the house. More often than not, I would just pump in my car with my jacket draped over. I tried to park further away to get a little bit of privacy. I have also pumped in a lot of bathrooms, and it made me pretty stressed out. It doesn't hurt to ask your employer if there is anything they can do to help.

@Brownie is right -- they have to provide you with a space that is NOT a bathroom (though it doesn't have to be exclusively a pumping space, it can be a shared space like a conference room, etc) and they have to prove undue hardship to get out of it, no matter how small they are. Good luck! Don't pump in the bathroom!

Will any of your coworkers be out of their offices on the days you need to pump? I had an officemate pump every two hours for DAYS without asking us first (3 cubes in an office) and it was REALLY awkward (we asked our manager to ask her to pump elsewhere.. still feel bad about it but seriously.)... but if you ask her and she's okay with it, maybe you can do it while she's there?

If you are friends with your coworker, I'd definitely pump in the office. With a cover and a sweater, you can look almost normal while pumping. I have to pump at the hospital and people are coming in and out of the room all the time. With a cover, I don't feel exposed (even though I still won't do it in front of guests at home).

Some pumps are louder than others though so that might be an issue. If you insurance covers it, get the Medela Symphony. It's super quiet!

Maybe a pumping bra might help you feel more comfortable?
