Still doing well, no spending! We have friends that wanted to go out tomorrow night (of course this week everyone wants to do something), but we invited them over to hang out instead and grill out. We have to go grocery shopping tomorrow but I'm going to do my best to just buy what we need. How do I know if a food item is a necessity or a want? Lol...

@Bao: bahaha
necessary: part of the recipe
want: not!
hahahah

I can't believe I made it this far. This week I've only purchased coffee and had to pay $29 for my car's inspection sticker.
I'm starting to think - can I do this again next week? I have vacation at the end of the month and would really like a new haircut. If I can keep up this being frugal business, I won't feel guilty about either expense! We'll see..

@regberadaisy: ok so if my recipe calls for chocolate, I can buy it?
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@Bao: hahah off you go searching for a chocolate recipe!
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
@regberadaisy: OMG how did you know?! I will do my best tomorrow to choose only healthy options and only buy what we need!

I failed, I haven't bought lunch, food, pop, ect. but at Target I bought 2 pairs of shorts because they were on sale for $12 and I had coupons to make them only $9...I couldn't resist! haha but otherwise I've been doing so good!
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@LuLu Mom: haha that' dang Target! You were done the minute you stepped through the doors!

@regberadaisy: I know, we needed formula...why do they put the baby section right across from Women's clothing?? ha ha
@Bao: haha technically I had no shorts...so it was necessary! haha

I thought yesterday was going to be a complete fail because I was meeting a friend for lunch. We ended up going over to her place and ate some of her leftovers so no extra spending! I did get the kids a warm pretzel each to prep them to be dropped off at the gym so we can get a workout in.

I was going to make tomorrow my cheat and get a Starbucks but because of a stupid change of plans, I'm going out to lunch today.

I think I've pretty much failed since I ate lunch out twice this week and am about to eat out again today (had made arrangements with a friend last week to eat out, and today she bailed, but now I have no lunch and need to still buy). It's not even Friday, wah. Oh well, I'm still with everyone in spirit. Good luck today ladies!

@regberadaisy: I will! At least I didn't order anything online this week. I consider that a victory

I was not successful this week. But our whole household was sick there was a ton of co-pays, prescriptions, juice, meals out because no one had enough energy to cook, etc.
Will try again today now that we are on the mend!

Still no spending, but I totally have like $300 worth of items in my Amazon cart right now. I feel like I'm just going to double my spending next week lol (to be fair, one of those items is a video monitor so it's not even that many things).

Did you say we get a freebie? Bc the farmers market came to my office and I needed some honey for cooking, and may have bought some kettlecorn for snack
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@dc yoga bee: haha yeah, everyone gets one -reasonable- freebie. Kettle corn def counts! Man, I love kettle corn.

I decided to torture myself yesterday by visiting Anthro while I was at the mall for my freebie lunch.
Pure. Torture.

@tlcbaby: I'm so impressed that you didn't cave!!
About to use my freebie on coffee with a friend. I'm fairly impressed, because DH is out of town, and I'm.still cooking for myself!
I'm seriously impressed with all of us, even though there have been some slip-ups. Way to go, ladies!

I still haven't done any unnecessary spending, yay! I used my freebie yesterday when I was in VT at a little country store...I bought maple pumpkin butter. Mmmm. I had thought I would use my freebie to buy a coffee, but my sister ended up buying my coffee, so I did the butter instead.
I've got my coffee and lunch/snacks ready to go today, and we're making homemade pizza tonight, so I should get through the day unscathed! I hope.

If anyone else started on Tuesday, feel free to push through tomorrow with me. I'm committed!
I made a list of things I would have at least window shopped for online: a new jacket, a glass pitcher for the fridge, PJs and socks for the kid, chalkboard for to-dos, and a couple more of my favorite nursing shirt. That's a lot of $$ saved!
Anybody else know what they would have shopped for but didn't?

woohoo! Good job everyone!
I am seriously wanting a chocolate dipped donut and Sbux! Sigh.
@emilysmith: I need a whole bunch of stuff off Amazon so I'm just waiting till next week! But I def would have asked DH to stop for DQ, get me a cookie from the store and/or Sbux! So I def saved ~ $10 I would have spent otherwise.

@regberadaisy: It's National Donut Day and Dunkin' Donuts is giving away free donuts! Maybe you could score a donut for free?
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@IRunForFun: omgoddd are you for real?>! But then I will feel so guilty for getting a donut and not buying anything.
pomelo / 5509 posts
@regberadaisy: Hahaha. Maybe you could buy a munchkin too, for like 10 cents.

used my 'freebie' on lunch today - first lunch I've bought all week and I've worked 40+ hours, pretty proud of myself! I've successfully had a week where I've spent less than $20 on coffee and lunch. NEVER thought that would happen! I'm going to see if I can keep it up next week.

@emilysmith: oh my gosh, soo much stuff. I wanted to buy DS a pair of shoes I saw on Zulily, but didn't. Almost caved and got Starbucks earlier in the week but kept telling myself it was at least $5 that I didn't need to spend. Deleted Banana/ON/Gap emails, didn't even want to know what's on sale this week.
I need to buy DS a lifejacket for the beach but I'll get that next week since we're not going on vacation until the 26th.

@emilysmith: I have a crapload of things in my Amazon cart that I don't really NEED right now. But I will soon (like pacifier wipes I use on my pump parts, bottle brushes, I want to try new bottles because I hate washing all those Dr. Brown parts, etc.). But I managed to tell myself none of it was truly necessary right this second since I haven't yet run out of anything.
I really wanted to order lunch yesterday and didn't.
I though to myself this morning, I have an Old Navy coupon I can just go and use my credit card (?!?!) and buy myself some new shirts. And then I had to shut that thought down.
I deleted all my Babysteal, Gilt, etc. emails as they came in this week. Didn't even look at the Kindle daily deal emails. No in-app purchases for, uh, Candy Crush. lol
The one I'm most proud of is, we are almost out of LO's body wash and lotion. It's California Baby so it's pricey but I told myself we didn't need it yet. Then I realized we had a couple of bottles of body wash and lotion that had been gifted to us, in his dresser. While they're not the ideal pricey organic stuff I'd love to buy, we have them already and they are FREE. So we're going to use those instead.
Even if I binge shop next week, I feel like this has taught me a lot about what is really necessary and what isn't -- and that delaying a purchase by just a few days can make it all of a sudden seem totally unnecessary!
Can't wait for the next one!
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@ladyfingers: oh wow, Amazing!!! Love your last point about delaying a purchase makes you realize if it's absolutely necessary or not!
Great job on using the "lesser" shampoo by the way! Thinking of making it a regular first week of each month. But second week for July since the first week is July 4th.
