Non-breathable bumpers ok?

    @wrkbrk: I feel like at that age, there'd be no use to them anyway. Plus, then your LO will be standing, and trying to stand on them, which pulls them down, making for a bigger hazard.

    I know they are pretty for decoration, but I don't see how they are useful at all.

    @Mae: Oh good!

    I think I'm just gonna buy nothing if anything only works for a while anyway!

    @wrkbrk: I never did. Instead of a matching bedding set, I bought just two sheets and a crib skirt.

    My SIL tried to give me about 3 old bumper sets she had, and was horrified when I told her no thanks, because they aren't considered safe. She was *sure* my LO was going to injure herself on the crib bars in some way, but she never has and she's 22 months now. At most, LO has slept with her foot or arm through the bars but it didn't even disturb her.

    @Anagram: Yep, DW"s mom said the same thing - but you need a bumper so he doesnt get hurt! Nope. Haha.

    We used a regular bumper starting at 7m. He kept hitting his head so we went out and got one. And now it helps keep his pacifier from falling out. I wouldn't use one with a newborn or non-rolling baby. But by the time we transitioned out of the PnP bassinet in our room to the crib, he was able to get himself away from them. And I really have no idea how a baby would get strangled in ours.

    @wrkbrk: Yeah I just bought crib sheets, I don't even have a crib skirt!

    @ShootingStar: I think it's when people don't tie them tight enough so they're loose? Or the ties themselves are loose and they can strangled with the ties?!

    @snowjewelz: Our ties are really short. I have to try really hard to get them tied with a bow. I guess if I just wanted to make a knot (and never get them back off) it would be easier. And each section can be slide up and down the rails where it's tied, but I'm still not sure how they'd get strangled by that.

    @snowjewelz: yeah, that article Mrs. Jacks posted with the pictures shows how--lots of babies find ingenius ways to hurt themselves. The picture of the baby with his head up under the bumper is terrifying.

    And once babies are old enough to stand, and they can push the bumper down with their feet, they will become loose.

    @ShootingStar: they could push the bumper up, wedge themselves between the bumper and crib rails and then have their neck stuck over the top of the bumper. There's a picture of that type of example in the full text of the article I posted (sorry, it's behind a paywall for those who don't subscribe).

    Lots of weird things can happen.
