Has anyone used the Nordstroms Personal Shopping appointments? What was your experience like?
I am working on drafting plans for a capsule wardrobe - which will include investing in some staple pieces. I just learned that Nordstroms offers this service free of charge...wondering if others have used it and how they liked it!

I've used personal shoppers during the Anniversary Sale. I think it is hit or miss depending on the person you get. Some are great and can suggest things that you might not have picked up. Some are not that great and just hold things for you while you shop. I think the challenge when trying to plan a wardrobe is reusing what you already have. Obviously the personal shopper at Nordstrom is motivated to sell you what is in the store.

@sunny: I'm definitely incorporating many existing pieces...but also looking to add in some staples. Plus - I am trying to up the quality of some pieces as well..i.e. moving from dress pants from the limited to more quality pieces that will last longer. In addition, hoping to sell lots to pay for some of the new pieces!

@Mrs D: it's a personal shopping service like stitch fix. My friends husband uses it and loves it.

@youboots: Hmmm very intriguing. I see that you get to "preview" your trunk...any ideas if you can make changes to it at that point? I have tried stitch fix a few times and generally have been pleased. However, the quality of the pieces they have sent has reminded me more of "seasonal" or "fashion forward" pieces. Not so much - wardrobe staples for multiple year use. Plus - I have also gotten boxes where I went "what were you thinking"? Totally depends on the stylist - I have LOVED some and hated some. I would love it if it was always the same stylist!

@Mrs D: I've used the Nordstrom personal shopper services a few times and I had a great experience. I tried on (and purchased) flattering pieces I wouldn't have picked out for myself.
I was extremely specific (lifestyle, pieces I wanted, what I didn't want, colors that were flattering on me, colors to avoid, styles/cuts that tend to work for me, brands I like, etc). When I arrived, they had a ton of stuff pulled for me and I started trying things on. My stylist pulled additional things based on how things were fitting, what styles were looking good, and other feedback. She also pulled shoes and jewelry! It was awesome!

I love Trunk Club! My stylist is fantastic; she's done trunks for both me and my husband. I'm happy to give you her info if you want. She's based in LA.

I used to be a Nordstrom personal shopper. Not for a very long time (as I chose to leave for a different company), but I was withNordstrom for over 5 years. I think you will love it, especially if you are looking for staple pieces. It is so nice to basically show up and have all the hard work done for you, and you don't even have to leave the dressing room if you don't want to. I hope you have a great experience! Nordstrom is the only place I shop these days because they have such great service and that makes my life way easier when I'm usually toting 3 kids with me.

@Bluebonnet: Thats what I love most about it - they will present pieces and combinations I may not otherwise think of! Plus - I like being pushed a little outside my box every once in a while! Glad you have had great experiences. I agree with you - being specific and giving them good guidance is hugely important! Plus - I'd love to establish a relationship with a shopper who could 1) help me season after season and 2) think of me when she see's a great new piece and recommend it. I am not a fashionista - so I am more than happy to have recommendations from an expert!
