I usually read recommended books/series. I do look on Goodreads to find their top books.

That website is pretty cool! I'm going to add a few books to my to-read list!

ETA: I added Fatale by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips & The Dublin Murder Squad Series by Tana French to my to-read list! I hope they're good.

I read The Bees a few months ago, and I can second their recommendation. I'm actually reading Shades of Milk and Honey right now and, although it is no Jane Austen, it is "endlessly diverting."

I'll have to check out A Natural History of Dragons!

I find that visiting a good independent bookstore and getting recommendations from the staff is your best bet. In Brooklyn I love Book Court and in Manhattan, McNally Jackson in Nolita is my favorite.

I'll occasionally mark stuff on goodreads. Otherwise I have a few friends whose recommendations I always like so I check with them.

But really, I own enough books that I rarely come across a point where I don't have something that I could pick up and read.
