We're have a few days of a heat wave here and it is so hot! We put down baby in her nursery and I saw that it is 78 degrees! That's with the window cracked and the ceiling fan on! She is only sleeping in a onesie and a swaddle (first time just a onesie!)
I thought about turning on the AC but DH thinks it's fine. As people who usually err on the side of rather be warm... What is too warm for a baby? WWYD if the nursery was 78?

We have a heat wave in SF too and our house is 74 degrees, with all the windows open! I just stripped our little dude down to his diaper & 1 A+A swaddle blanket so he won't overheat.

we've been having this issue the past couple of nights, we actually ended up co-bedding last night because of it.
he's in a sleeper and we finally got the room down to 75 when we put him down and it went down to 73...
78's too high for my comfort and he's not comfortable either

Too hot for me. R likes it on the warm side but I cracked the window at 75. I feel better in the 73 range.

We turned our air on at 75 ( ceiling fan on ). He runs hot to begin with!

Our monitor often reads a high temperature which makes me think it might not be accurate...it's often said 78 or even 80, but it doesn't feel like 80 in the room! Anyway, I don't stress about it...LO doesn't seem to mind.

68 was perfect, but we had a tough time maintaining that in the summer without air conditioning.

@hilsy85: I agree. Our monitor usually shows 78-80 and it doesn't feel anywhere near that hot in the room.

Actually by our 3 am feeding, the monitor said it was 73 degrees but I was sooo cold! Closed the window, turned off the fan, and cuddled under a blanket after nursing for a bit!

I read a cool room is safer from a SIDS perspective, so I prefer it be around 70 in her room.

So what is the recommended temp for a nursery? We keep our house at 77-78 in the summer to keep the bills down, and with the fans on and the shade from trees it's never even warm...but I have literally no idea what I should be keeping it on when LO gets here. Do I really need to crank it down to 70-72? I suppose I could add a fan or window unit just for her room.

Our monitor has been saying it gets up to 84 the past couple of nights. That's with the fan on high and the AC set to 80. The lowest it gets lately is 78. I don't like it!

@MamaMoose: I agree with you! I have the Motorola monitor and it says the nursery is between 77-80 usually. I know it's not that hot because we have coconut oil at her changing station and it doesn't melt. And I brought in an instant read thermometer and it wasn't close to that temp.

@hilsy85: @HabesBabe: We have the Motorola too. Two nights ago it freaked out and told me it was 34 degrees in LO's room. Ummm.... FALSE.

@shopaholic: We both live in SoCal so I know what you mean about the weather! It's usually pretty warm when we put the kids down but it cools down in the middle of the night. So we just leave it as is. We've only turned on the AC once (a few days ago) but only to cool it down 1 degree (from 78 to 77).

Ya we have the same problem with that monitor! It's always a few degrees higher than it actually is. I always used to freak out that the nursery was too warm but my LO seemed to like it around 75.

68-72 is supposed to best for SIDS prevention, but it has been really warm here and our house has been 75-78 at night. We also switched to just a onsie and very thin sleep sack.

@banana: @shopaholic: Yeah, I was going to say the same thing-- we're in Fullerton and the monitor said 80 last night when I put her down (short sleeved onesie and cotton sleep sack) with the ceiling fan on low. During her middle-of-the-night wakings, it was definitely cooler, so I turned off the fan. I don't really pay too much attention to the monitor temp.

Seems to be a Motorola monitor thing! Okay! I won't worry about it too much then going forward! It seemed to measure about 4-5 degrees warmer than our house thermostat.
