We had to buy all new furniture and I went overboard at PBK. So, we spent $$$.

I don't recall the exact total, but we did it on a budget. Someone gifted us BRU gift cards so we got the crib for under $100. We reused a dresser we ready had & bought another dresser from ikea to match (maybe another $100?).
I did splurge on crib sheets (I couldn't get over the adorable pattern) and on a set of gilded blocks that spell WISH.
Including the glider ($120 on amazon), I'd say we spent less than $500 on everything.

$2000. Our budget and we were just over it by a couple hundred?
honeydew / 7091 posts
Including what the IL's spent on furniture for us? Probably $1,300. Otherwise, $300.
We had to buy crib, dresser, hutch, rocker/recliner, baby mattress and then fun stuff. We would have spent less if we were buying our own furniture though. We did spend good money on the rocker/recliner though ($600) because we want to use it in the living room when we're done with babies. Otherwise I would have gotten something really cheap from CL

Around $100? But we were gifted the big things, like the crib and glider/ottoman, re-purposed some things, like a dresser we already had as a changing table, and we live in a rental that I didn't want to have to repaint--I bought circle decals instead. I spent the most on fabric for a wall tapestry and a rug and found random knick-knacks around the house or at thrift stores (like a pack of elephant-shaped chalkboards).

Crib - $110 (amazon)
Dresser - $100 (craigslist)
Changing table - $30 (craigslist)
End table - $10 (craigslist)
paint and new hardware for CL furniture - $45
Fabric for curtains/crib skirt - $100
Curtain rods and rings - $60
Decor - about $120 (mostly DIY stuff from Michaels, plus a mirror from target)
Light fixture/chandelier - $90 (overstock)
Light dimmer switch - $20 (lowes)
= just about $685 out of pocket.
My parents gifted us a glider/ottoman and my FIL is building us a bookcase. Our crib mattress/crib sheets and changing pad/cover and hamper were gifts from our shower.
I feel really good about our budget honestly. I know it's a lot of money, but considering that EVERYTHING in the room is brand new, and it is a big room, and I feel like it is going to be really well decorated/finished… I'm happy that I was able to keep costs as low as I did.

Somebody on here gave their baby a fancy nursery!

If you count the furniture that our in-laws our buying for us, probably about $1,100, but it'll probably end up being $500 out of pocket for us.

I used to have a spreadsheet with the details, but we did it very cheaply because we were going to leave it behind when we relocated. So, IKEA and between $500-750.

@Mae: well, if you bought the furniture new, it would have been more for sure, so I think you've done really well.

Probably right at $2K since DH wanted a certain nursery set and we bought a more expensive mattress, toddler bed conversion set, and the glider wasn't cheap.

@looch: Yep, that's what I tell myself There's the cheapest way to do things, the easiest way to do things-- and then my way which is not the cheapest but is the look I want for far less than the easy way (just buy everything I want and DIY nothing) haha.

I'm surprised how little you guys spent. I guess no one is shopping at restoration hardware that place is $$$.
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
Under $500.
Crib/crib mattress = gifted
Dresser/nightstand = already owned them + paint to refinish
Curtains = already owned
Changing pad = gifted
Diaper genie = gifted
Lamp/decor = already owned
Book shelves = DH built, I owned the books
Glider = $75 (Craigslist)
Rugs =$45 (Wal-Mart)
Crib Sheets =$10 (Target)
Room Paint/supplies = $75
Decals = $100
Treehouse = $50 for supplies
So a grand total of roughly $350.

@littlek: Restoration Hdw for a nursery they are going to be out of in a year or so? Giiirrl bye. I'd rather have RH in my dining room instead haha

On current LO's nursery not much. PNP and all big gear (swing, etc) were from S, which were gifted from her shower. The crib is DS's old crib.
I'm not actually setting up his nursery until after he's here and after we move, though. (I'll start working on it this weekend), so the number might go up a little, just for decorating purposes, but it'll still be under $500.
GOLD / squash / 13576 posts
@MrsTiz: we don't plan on changing any of his furniture. We got him a convertible crib.
papaya / 10473 posts
I am a DIY and vintage addict, and I was verrrrry particular about things I wanted in DS's room, which actually worked out favorably for our budget. I *love* his room, and would go the exact same route if I had to do it all over again.

@littlek: I'm way too cheap for RH in ANY room of our house, let alone one that is going to see more puke and poop in the next few years than any other room of our house…. lol
GOLD / squash / 13576 posts
@Mae: i don't own anything from RH but I definitely like it! Especially there nursery stuff.

I remember giving myself a $1,500 budget. But, then of course after LO was born, I realized I needed more thing that I did not anticipate so I'd say about 2,000. Things like blackout curtains, a different glider (put the other one somewhere else), a sound machine, and a different rug because the rug we originally bought kept curling up.
For LO#2, if it comes while LO#1 is still in diapers, we don't need anything but a crib because they will share a room.
I'm not doing the nursery thing again. I'll make LO#1 a big boy room, but i'm not making lo#2 a new nursery when ours is still in great shape.

We had quite a bit of money in wedding gift cards. That helped out a ton.
We bought the furniture new but on discount, and our major splurge was glider, which will hopefully be a good investment that holds up.
We aren't doing a shower so we were on our own for all purchases. I am the least creative person on earth so nothing in the nursery is DIY.
All told, we will come in around $1750 out of pocket.
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
I think I spent maybe $200 on the artwork, $50 on the paint, and $50. Everything else was given to us including all of the furniture.

Hmmm.... not that much. My grandparents gifted us the daybed set, so I bracketed that.
Crib + mattress (IKEA) - $200
Crib bedding (multiple Carter's jersey sheets + matress protector) - $40
[Daybed + mattress (IKEA) - $700]
[Bedding for daybed (LL Bean) - $150]
Changing table pad - $30
Fabric to make changing pad covers - $30
Rug (LL Bean, on sale) - $100
So, out of pocket, only about $400. We wanted DD to have a somewhat "grown up" nursery, so we kept the decor exactly the same as it was when the room was our guestroom, and just changed out the sleeping furniture. The lamps, rocking chair, dresser, knick knacks, art, etc. all stayed.
grapefruit / 4136 posts
Dang! We are cheap asses less than $500 and that includes what was gifted!
hostess / wonderful watermelon / 39513 posts
Less than $500 for each LO....dressers and cribs were gifted by grandparents. We bought chairs, Ikea cube organizers and crib mattresses!
coconut / 8483 posts
I think 2000 to 3000?
Crib was $500
Ikea trip for decor and dresser was about $800
Linens were $400
Then we had some other decor, storage, had it painted etc. Maybe closer to the $2000 range.
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
The new convertible crib and dresser was $800 alone. My glider was on sale for $150 and we repainted an old bookshelf. After buying fabric for bedding and curtains and all the other little odds and ends I would say $1500 at the most. Probably less.
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
Crib, paint, change mat, accessories...probably around $700? We repurposed quite a few things, and DIYed others.
honeydew / 7667 posts
Including gifts from my mom? 2k maybe but the furniture is convertible so it will be in that room forever.
@lawbee11: @lovehoneybee: @keiki_mama: I want to see pictures too!!
grapefruit / 4817 posts
It would have been under $1000 if we hadn't splurged on the crib, but it was probably around $1500 with the one we got.
