Has anyone started thinking about nurseries?
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
I def have a full on pinterest board long before I even started TTC I think
When we got married we moved into a 3 bedroom, one is a guest room right now so our other empty room will be the nursery. My whole house is a gray/white theme with yellow accents, so LO's room will prob be the same and very gender neutral (even tho we intend to find out gender).
These are some of my inspiration pics!

We will be doing a small re-do of the C's current room. We are moving her to a different room and re-using her furniture. I will likely paint the room and get a few new accessories. We had kept her room fairly simple because we knew a nursery was temporary.

We are currently debating having our girls share a room. Our oldest will be 22 months when the second is born. She is still in our bed and has worn out her welcome. However it is a constant challenge to get her into her crib (poor kid vomits). We think having the baby in her room will help keep her in her crib. Of course, if it doesn't work we have a third bedroom that we'll put the new baby in. Our goal is to get the second baby out of our room as soon as possible so we don't have a repeat of the first.

We don't know what we are having yet but probably won't go crazy Bc we are renting for the year. Wah.

@winniebee: I don't want to go crazy period. I feel like the baby industry is very much "you need to have this!" so I really want to be able to curb my pinterest obsessions and make it cute but not extravagant.

@snowjewelz: that's a good plan. With our first we did not go crazy either. It was cute but not over the top.

We're planning on moving Xander out of his room and his nursery will become the new baby's. It's already gender neutral, so we probably won't repainting it. Dunno about decor though.

If I can maintain some momentum, I'd like to repaint. The walls are currently pink and blue, but I want to go more neutral this time (grey or caramel). I'm going to need to paint C's new room too. Maybe I will just do them the same color!

We rent a 2 br apt, and our spare room is my husbands office for work/pantry for holding things/spare room for guests (when we get a futon or something to put in there). Baby is going to have to sleep in our room for a bit until we move.

Baby will be in our room until he/she is a year old, probably. Then we will move him in with his brother.
We are moving in a couple months, though, so I plan to decorate current LO's room! He's really into birds and flowers and stuff, so I want to go that route with the room! I need to hit up the Pinterest, I guess.

I'm so boring. I love M's nursery and we put a lot of effort into it. Now we're moving to a new house and I'm just kind of dreading all the decorating. I feel like I don't have the energy to figure out a toddler room and a new nursery too (not to mention the rest of the house)! Hopefully I'll have some inspiration soon

@MrsF: Just use all your nursery stuff for #2! Then you just have to decorate the toddler room.

@AngelicOne: I'm in the same boat, kinda. We rent a 1 bdrm (technically a 2 bdrm but we use the 2nd as a big living room). I am thinking the baby will be in our room until we move and maybe a nook of the living room will be baby's corner. Pro b lem is we love our apartment and don't want to move.
@snowjewelz cute inspirations! I love the yellow and grey. I also totally agree on keeping it simple. I don't want to buy a bunch of stuff we won't need or use

@magnolia: Glad to see we're not alone. We love the area we're in, just not the complex we live in. We've been wanting to move for awhile but I don't want to move while pregnant, so we're putting it off yet again and will probably do another 6-8 month lease when it's up in Sept.

@allison: yeah - that's what we'll do, I'm sure. Unfortunately the mort decorative part of her room (which I love) is a giant wall decal. Hopefully it comes off the old wall so that we get our security deposit back in our rental! I'm going to have to come up with some other art to take it's place in the new room.

We're thinking of doing a light purple and yellow room (similar to the first inspiration pictures posted but with touches of purple). And while it may not be the most masculine of colors, we're an LSU family, so it's pretty easy to turn add a few LSU items to make it more boy if necessary.

Are any of your 2nd time moms planning on moving your LOs out of the nursery and into another room? When do you think you'll do that??
GOLD / squash / 13576 posts
@Adira: nope. We have 2 spare rooms. Since we are having a girl we are giving her the room with an en suite bathroom. B's room has a jack and Jill bathroom.

@Adira: we moved LO out of her nursery and into a big girl room after her 2nd birthday. She's been in her big girl room for about 6 months and the transition was easy peasy. I thought she would want to go back to her old room/toddler bed but nope she loves her new room. Right now she just has her bed, a desk and dresser. I have been slacking with putting any art work on the walls. I need to get on that! I'm just not that good with decorating and I've been too lazy to put in the effort to find some inspiration
When I did the nursery the first time around I had way too much furniture and have since moved stuff around. Right now the nursery is storing all the boxes/bins of newborn stuff until we find out the sex. Hopefully I'll get inspired and motivated soon bc I feel like this pregnancy is just flying by!

@sandy: Thanks for the info! Glad to hear the transition went well!! I'm thinking we'll want to transition Xander early enough that he's not super upset when the new baby takes over his old room, but I haven't figured out the when yet... plus I'll need to get rid of all the furniture currently in the room and paint it! Ugh!

@Adira: LO's big girl room was our old office but when we decided to starting trying for baby #2 we moved everything out to a different room and the room was just empty. We put some of LO's old toys in there that she had outgrown (her music/activity table, some old walker toys, etc) and LO would love going to the empty room and playing with her old toys. Then we got the big girl bed and she loved playing on the new bed. Soon after we made a big deal about her new bedding and pillows and told her she was going to sleep in her big girl bed like Mama and Dada's bed. She loved that. We stripped all the bedding from her toddler bed so she wouldn't be tempted to want to go back to it. She never asked or tried to go back.

@Adira: We are about to do this transition. We just ordered C's big girl bed this weekend. Now I need to clear the room and get it ready. It's our unused office that has become storage central. We have been talking about it and she volunteered giving up her room and bed to the baby in exchange for a big girl bed.

@MamaG: That's got to be helpful that your daughter is old enough to understand what is going on and is up for the transition! I don't think Xander even understands that I'm pregnant, haha. You'll have to let me know how it goes if you end up moving her before I move Xander!

I can't wait to see everyone's cute baby rooms! We are in a one-bedroom apartment and will probably be there until the baby is around 6 months or so, so I will be living vicariously through your inspiration photos

I don't have any images but I think I've settled on painting both the nursery and C's rooms grey. I just need to head to the paint store and pick out a grey I like. C's bedding is mostly pale purple so we will be doing purple accents in her room.
For the new babies room I think I want to do grey, red and elephants. DH is a diehard Alabama fan and I think it will be really cute. Unfortunately finding a crib bumper is proving to be challenging. I might actually attempt to make my own.

Officially nursery planning! Our walls in the nursery are already painted gray so I would like to keep that so I don't have to repaint. I'm trying to be as frugal as possible! So which of these color schemes do you all like best for a baby boy?
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@whenoceansrise: I like the middle one!
We're going furniture shopping this Sunday w/ my parents! That reminds me we have to do the measurements one more time to make sure everything fits the way I have in my head haha!

@snowjewelz: how fun! I can't wait to see how all of our nurseries turn out!
pomelo / 5298 posts
@whenoceansrise: I'm partial to grey and red as that's what we are doing for our girl. But from searching it's certainly more referenced for a boy. I'll share the etsy art I purchased later today. We are re-using our existing furniture which is really light (maple/natural) finish.

@whenoceansrise: I like them all!! But the red is nice because its a POP of color!
This is our inspiration color palate:

@whenoceansrise: I like the first or the second one!
@cheert16: I LOVE the greys and pinks! So cute!!
Poor baby #2 is stuck with Xander's leftovers. No new paint or anything.

@Adira: If we were having a boy- we were going to move B to a new room and re-use the nursery. ( in a perfect world I would move B and reuse the nursery and re-do it because I like the location better right across the hall from our room than where my lil lady is going down the hall) We will be lucky if it gets done though- we are on the upend of a bathroom gut/remodel so DH isn't very interested about doing another room! Too bad!

@MamaG: yes, please share! i've been looking for art!
@cheert16: i like them all so it'll be hard to choose! probably will pick whichever one i find it easier to find decor for! also, love the grey and pink! super cute

@Adira: Xander's nursery is cute! Not a bad thing to be stuck with
