Anyone taken or taking their LO to see the Nutcracker? We went tonight, on the eve of my son's 4th birthday, and I was in mommy heaven!!! It was a special date, just the two of us. And he was really good and loved the fight between the rats and the toy soldiers!

I took my niece when she was four and a half and she was awful! She kept saying how boring it was and was literally rolling in her seat. Glad to hear your experience was much more positive.

I took my daughter right after Thanksgiving. She's almost 4. We had a good time, although she had a running commentary going the entire time. It might be a fun annual mommy-daughter date.

I went to the Nutcracker every year with my mom from age three to well into my 20s. It's one of my favorite Christmas memories and I can't wait to do it with my kids

We went when DD1 was 3.5 and she loved it! I'm waiting for DD2 to be the same age and then I can take them both.

That is so sweet! This is somdthing I'm looking forward to because I used to be in a dance company so performing the nutcracker is a special memory for me, but I haven't thought about what age take her.

Does anyone have a good book recommendation for the story? I feel like we would get less "commentary " if I could read the story first. But with so many versions on Amazon I don't know what best for under age 5.

My daughter went last year (I couldn't go because my DH broke his leg in two places the night before and was in surgery) and did great, according to my friend. I got to go this year and she was awesome. She was just enthralled with the whole thing. She is 4.5 years old, so she went at 3.5 years old.
I spent a lot of time talking to her about how to behave in the theater and she knew the story of the nutcracker and that helped a lot.
I'm looking forward to this being a yearly thing with us! -
I have a blog post on taking little ones to the Nutcracker. I took my older daughter when she was two and a half and that culminated in her performing in the Nutcracker last night and the night before.
Who knew that one cultural outing would lead to my daughter's passion!

@Mrs. Jacks: Oh wow, she is so adorable! I just signed up my DD for toddler's dance class and she had so much fun. She loved following along with the older girls (the 3 years old). I hope she continues to enjoy the class.

@Kimberlybee: She was so professional about the whole thing. She hit all her marks and was responsible for her costume change. The first night I wasn't backstage, but luckily I volunteered the second night and got to see how seriously she took it!
