Hi there!
We want to take our 2 year old daughter and infant son apple picking this Columbus Day weekend. We weren't crazy about the orchards we went last year so we are looking for somewhere new. Hopefully with some animals too!
Has anyone visited an orchard they really liked that they can recommend? Silverman's seemed great, but is no longer offering pick your own apples because of the early harvest this year.

We've gone to Stuarts for the last 3 years and loved it (we can bring our dog!) but I don't think they have animals...Here's a list of Apple Orchards in the area!

I haven't been but my friend goes to Maskers every year. You can bring a picnic lunch if it is a nice day.

This is a great jumping off point! Maskers is in Warwick and there are a few orchards in the area, so I think we'll head to one of them there...

FYI, lots of the Orchards aren't doing Apples anymore. Pumpkins are in season though!

@junebugmama: I know, that's part of the dilemma! I guess it was a really early season this year.
I've checked some of their websites, and there are a few that seem to still have apples... at the very least, we'll grab a pumpkin from somewhere!

@hpopny: cute! you are an "apple seed" looking to pick some apples! Where have you decided to go? I've been looking at different farms and I can't decide! We went to one in CT last year but they don't have apples this season.

We went to Masker's orchard a few weeks ago and it was great! I also think that it might be a bit late for apples though...

@Andrea: I think we are going to Harvest Moon in North Salem, NY. I called and they said that there may not be many apples to pick on Monday, but they will still have their other activities. At the very least, we'll get a pumpkin and feed some animals!
We went apple picking right before Halloween last year and that was pretty late, but there were still apples on the trees. Thought I was being ahead of the game this year, but the early harvest threw me off!

@Andrea: Yes, we went to Harvest Moo Farm & Orchards! (Meant to follow up sooner, but the days got away from me...)
We went on Monday and we had a good time.
The apple picking was ok, but we went mainly for the experience rather than getting a ton of apples. There were still enough low hanging apples that our 2 yr old could reach.
They also had a band, tractor pulled hay rides, lots of lunch options and the most delicious cider doughnuts and pumpkin cheesecake!
It was festive fall day. 
Think we're going to try to go to Silverman's next year though, to see how that is...

@hpopny: sounds great! I think we'll finally have time to go this weekend so we might go to Harvest Moon. Good to know that there are lots of other things to do there and not just apple picking. Thanks!
