I've heard that if you rub a little olive oil onto baby's bottom right after it's born, it will be easier to clean off those first meconium poops. I wonder... could you spray olive oil Pam on it's butt? lol
I was wondering though - will this affect the cloth diapers? I don't want to ruin the absorbency with the oil... What if I use liners?

I think even with liners the oil will still damage your cloth diapers. We used disposables until the meconium diapers passed.

I heard about this too but I never tried it since I didn't ever change any meconium diapers. I probably wouldn't try it with cloth though since it seems it would cause them to repel. And I don't think the liners would be thick enough to prevent it from absorbing all the way through. I am definitely no expert though so I could be wrong.

As long as you are on top of it, the meconium isn't that bad. I would use EMAB balm before olive oil though, because I know it is cloth safe.

Meconium only lasts a couple of days. I just don't think it's worth it... Use disposables.

I would use something cloth friendly. Maybe coconut oil? Meconium diapers are ridiculous, though. There's no way I would want to try cleaning that out of a cloth diaper.

For the record, I just want to say that I would not use Pam olive oil! There are so many more additives in the spray that in just the plain EVOO. If you do it, please use EVOO and not Pam!!

We didnt have to deal with meconium much because she pooped it all out on my belly when she first came out

@Mrsbells: Heh, yes, it was. My real question was about the diapers being damaged by it.
I really don't want to use disposables at all. I might consider getting some of the organic disposable inserts for my GroVia or gDiapers.
Also I'm using a birthing center, so the literal first diaper will be one of mine. We go home 4-6 hours after birth.

if you really don't want to do disposables, i would definitely do liners as i heard those first few diapers are a real pain. no RL experience for you though, sorry!

He had no more meconium by the time we left the hospital so I don't know but I know that oil will make your cloth diapers repel...
We used the flushies by gDiapers in the beginning when we first got home.
