I was driving LO to daycare this morning and a momma deer and baby deer run right in front of my car. I slammed on the brakes as hard as I could and clipped the baby deer. The momma deer kept running across the street and the baby deer lied down. He looked at the car and put his head down. I thought at that moment I killed him. I got out of the car and ran over, the baby was still breathing and there was no blood or anything. My car was absolutely fine. I didn't want to just leave the baby in the street. So I stayed with it, petting it and I mouthed at a car passing by "help." She pulls over, gets out of her car, came over and we called animal control. While trying to call animal control, the baby stands up. I jump into the middle of the road (it's 2 lanes) and stop traffic as the baby deer runs across and into some trees. The lady who was with me and I just look at each other in shock. He ran across the street with no issue. The only thing I'm concerned is him finding his mommy and any possible injuries. I posted on our local FB page that if anyone sees this baby deer and he appears injured to call animal control. I got a comment an hour later that someone had seen my baby deer and he/she was running fine. Fingers crossed he/she found his/her mommy.
