Yes! For the last 5-6 months of BFing I would nurse her in bed so I could snooze some more. Once she woke up, DH would often get up with her. He does it now that we've weaned, too.

I think you should trade off for sure! Unfortunately, I don't think it's too uncommon that breastfeeding sets a precedence and the routine just doesn't change when mom doesn't *have* to feed the baby in the morning. Or husbands sometimes balk at the change.

LO is super pleasant and happy in the mornings and she is sleeping when DH leaves for work Mon-Fri, so he likes to hang out with her while I make us breakfast and go to the gym. He does pick up at 3pm and between 3 and 6, she's not always as happy

@regberadaisy: Ugh, this doesn't work for me. I tried to get Hubs to get up to change Xander's diaper before I'd nurse him in the morning and his response was "You already have to get up and I don't, so why can't you just do it?"

Well right now I nurse in bed in the mornings. After I'm done I wake up DH and tell him I'm going to the bathroom and he needs to watch LO. The I proceed to get dressed for the day. So I don't really give him a choice LOL. This is only on the weekends when he is off though. Sometimes he just plays in bed with LO and sometimes he gets up and gets him dressed.

@highwire: For seriously. I'm worried that once we stop breastfeeding, I'm STILL going to be the one having to get up all the time. Apparently Hubs NEEDS 9 hours of sleep and I only need 7. *grumble grumble*

@Adira: @highwire: This is very much our situation. I haven't breastfed in three months. I'm still the one getting up everyday, seven days a week to do the morning routine with LO. DH used to get up to start the car in the winter and get LO. I would do the evening pickup. Since doing bottle/formula feeding, I still get up in the morning, but do the morning drop off as well. I found that I'm more efficient in the morning at getting my LO and I ready to go, so I took over the morning drop off.

I'd love to sleep in at least once a week, but I don't foresee that happening until LO and a future sibling are 18 years old.

We each take a day on the weekends and get up with him. DH never wakes up to the monitor, but I don't have a problem falling back asleep after I roll over and poke him. He grumbles about it sometimes, but I honestly don't care.

@Adira: Ours is a little opposite. I go to bed at 9-10pm to do the morning wakeups. DH is a computer programmer, known for being nocturnal. His entire family is, which is kind of troubling in a way. So, he's up hours after I go to bed playing video games. I wake up and do the morning stuff.

LO and I have a routine for the weekends too. I like taking him in the stroller for walks or to get coffee together. For me, that's our special morning thing. I hope to continue it when he's older and a full on toddler.

@highwire: I swear, I'm not bitter.

@Adira: It's one of my favorite things to do. I know when two of the 5 coffee shops (damn, my hood has a lot!) nearby open up usually at about the 2 hour awake mark for LO on his 2, 3, 4 schedule. I haven't walked us to the other 2-3 coffee shops further away, maybe when he can manage a little more awake time in the morning, we'll do it. I love it. It's our time together in the morning to stroll and for me to get my fix. When we visited my parents, I wondered how far away the coffee shop walking wise. If it wasn't 90 degrees and humid, we would have walked it.

@Adira: yes DH complains about how tired he is because he had to get up at 5 am for work. Well maybe you wouldn't be so tired if you weren't up till midnight playing video games... And I've been up 3 times with LO. But he says I get more total sleep because I don't have to be at work. Well it's not my problem you get less sleep because you are playing video games! Go to bed at a normal hour and quit bitching! Haha

@MamaJ: Ugh, when I was on maternity leave, my husband was like that too! When he was on his leave, he'd get up for middle of the night feedings and stuff to change diapers, but once he went back to work and before I did, he was all "You can nap during the day and I can't!" Grrrrr. Now we're BOTH back at work full-time and he STILL doesn't help out. Grumble grumble.

um, nope! and I'm the one that goes out of the house to work everyday, where he can stay in his pjs if he wants to.

DH has always worked nights, so I think he's just used to sleeping later, where I've always survived on little sleep. It's easy for me to get up and get everything done but there are some days where I wish I could get a few more minute to myself in the morning!

Even though i still bf, my dh and I always alternate. If she wakes up hungry motn or early morning he will feed her a bottle of bm and let me sleep every other time! Just because I bf doesn't mean im not exhausted.

Id make him start taking over feedings now!

@Adira: My LO is almost 11 months old. We didn't do this during the winter because he was so little. Also, we weren't really prepared for that part of parenting I guess of being stroller warriors. Since we've gotten used to using the stroller more especially for trips to the park, it's become more frequent. I'm hoping to continue it in the winter. I love our mornings together.

I have to give DH props, he got up with me even when I was breastfeeding.
