Do you wear contacts?
I never get watery eyes when I cut onions (when I wear my contacts).

Ive heard that popping them in the freezer for 10-15 minutes helps reduce the tears.

Apparently Martha Stewarts trick is to have a candle burning right next to your cutting board. It's not fool proof though, sometimes I still get watery

@chopsuey119 I do not wear contacts, I have glasses. Tried them a few times but even the super light weight ones mess with me. Dang allergies!

I don't have a trick, but I saw this was under "Baby Fever" and I got so confused! I thought maybe if you eat onions it helps with baby fever...and I was willing to try it!

I've tried all the tricks, nothing seems to work for me. Even green onions get me sometimes!

@lawbee11 it automatically has baby fever selected before I post anything and sometimes I just forget to change it lol.

food processor works for me ! but i have to basically process them until they are liquid because my husband hates them - its the only way i can sneak them into recipes!

My contacts are my protection against the onions. If I wear my glasses, I can't stop crying! I make my husband do it then.

I always cut off both ends first and immediately discard them in the trash can. I never cry from cutting onions.

Onion goggles! My cousins have them & swear they work! I registered for them when we got married, but no one got them for us I think I should just order them though! Plus they're super sexy

Light, then blow out a match
Put the blown out match in your mouth so the smoke rises while you chop
The smoke will neutralize the onions and keep you from feeling them in your eyes

The trick is to have a really Sharp knife and to use a slicing motion. When you chop or push down, it pushes more of the juices out of the onion.
I took culinary classes from this chef! Here's a video on how to dice an onion. I always do it this way. There's hardly any waste or tears!

I find that when I chop an onion that was stored in the fridge (sometimes I only use half and then put the other half in a container in the fridge) that my eyes don't hurt nearly as badly when I chop it.
Also a very sharp knife helps too, since it doesn't release as much of the juice that causes the stinging
@Sweet T: That is exactly how I cut onions too, so smart!!

@ash I Bought something like that from Pampered Chef a while ago all it did was slice and I thought it would dice as well. DH says we already have one of those you don't need another. I bet if I got one like this and just gave away the other one he would never notice
@mrs. bird Those are AWESOME! I would totally wear them!
@sweet t I am adding that video to my favorites list. I knew there was an easier way to do it! Thanks
