Can your HR help? Our STD is connected to our sick leave, so your doctor can write you off for a specified period of time and it goes to our HR who submit it to insurance I think. The rules and policies will differ depending on which insurance company plan there is.

There is EI sick leave too, but that would depend how far along you are. You can get 15 weeks of sick leave, on top of your mat/pat leave.

@babycanuck: our coverage varies how long you've been with the company (100% for x days, then 75% pay for the remainder etc) to a max number of weeks, then it would have to be transfered to long term disability.
