Sweet Dylan James was born sleeping this morning at 3:20 a.m. We got to hold him, see him, and have him in our room with us until we left the hospital. He was just beautiful and it was utterly heartbreaking to leave the hospital without him. I'm home now. The pain is awful, though I know in our hearts this was the only decision for him and for our family. A friend told us that "all he ever knew was love." I hope that's true.
The compassion we received from the hospital staff throughout our stay was wonderful. They offered warmth and support every step of the way. They gave us a memory box that included his tiny hat and blanket, a few sets of footprints, and a flash drive of photos (for when we are ready) Also a stuffed teddy bear that was cuddled against him in his cradle.
I have been floored by the outpouring of support from this community. I've been a member here for almost 5 years and have always known it is a special place. But you all have gone above and beyond to show me that you care - private messages and e-mails, cards and packages in the mail, wall posts, words of support on this thread, comments on this thread from those who rarely even comment on the boards. And the meals that have been set up to be delivered through my birth months....my husband and I can't thank you all enough. There are some truly wonderful people in this world, and you are all among them.

Dylan James is a beautiful name and I'm so glad that you got to spend some time with him, thought I know it wasn't enough. I'm glad the hospital treated you well and it has gone as well as it can. I'll continue to keep you in my prayers in the days ahead as you grieve and, hopefully, start to heal.
