I'm just over halfway done with Outlander and I'm loving it! I bought the first 8 episodes to watch after I finish this book as well.
Anyway, for those that have read this series, (without any spoilers) how did you think the book series progressed? I hear it slows down, but is it still worth it? Rate them in order of your favorites if you feel like it

I've read the whole series a few times. Some books are definitely slower than others... They all blur together for me now but I think the first is great, second is slower and third is great again. The rest sort of ebb and flow like that. I love them all!

I read 4 of them then decided it was enough.
The fourth one ended really well and I didn't feel the need to keep reading the series. I actually liked the second one better than the first too. And the 3rd & 4th were fun. The first one might have been my least favorite actually!

@Bao: I was kind of over it after the third but had to read to see what happened. The 4th left everything in a good place and I just wanted to read something else, I might go back and read the others at some point!

I liked the third one best (Voyager... which is what this newest season of the show will follow, so I'm super excited for it), followed by the first one (Outlander.) After the fourth one, the books definitely slow down/change pace - there are so many "main characters" and intertwining storylines that it seems to take a while to advance the story.

@Bao: For me, it was - I really like all the historical research that goes into the novels, and that definitely doesn't change. I also think it depends on how invested in the characters you feel at that point - either you'll want to read on because you love the characters, or you'll be like, "Meh, that's enough."
I'm actually really hoping the show continues on past the 4th season, because I think they'll cut out a lot of the extraneous stuff and make it a more streamlined story.

I had a hard time getting through 5 and absolutely could not finish 6 and thus have not read 7 or 8. 3 was probably my favorite book

I've finished 1 and 2 (as audio books) and I'm on 3 now. LOVE them so far!

Some books were definitely slower than others, but I liked the ones that referenced American history because I'm more familiar with that than Scottish history.
I've read the whole series 3 times, and I even have an autographed copy of book 1. (I happen to live in Diana Gabaldon's hometown!)

It sounds like I'm the opposite of most so far. Voyager was my least favorite and the middle couple were my favorite but I still like the most recent ones. Like for @synchronicity, I've read the series a few times and they blur together.

I read the first three, but was really only into the first two. I feel like the plot died halfway through the third and haven't had the desire to read the fourth.

@Bao: more characters more stories to tell. This means that it took longer to get back to any particular story or character and they only joined together towards the end if at all.

I've read all of the books and I did feel it slowed down a bit at the end but was still sad they stopped. The characters felt like family and I missed them!

I've read all the books and I feel like it slowed down for one really terrible book in the middle, then got better with the last one or two. I can't remember if I didn't like 5 or 6, but one of them was just kind of pointless.
