LO colors/paints/draws a TON, which means there are papers all over the place. Some she puts on the fridge and some she just leaves laying around. I recycle a lot of them but I'm literally tossing handfuls a day...is this my only option? What else could she color on besides paper to eliminate some waste? Or something we could recycle?

My mom always had big rolls of butcher paper.

Lo likes to draw on boxes or catalogs that come in the mail, so we reuse those for her! Big boxes she can climb inside and color

I do recycle LO's art projects....I thought that was ok?
I try to have her color on both sides of papers, on the back of junk mail, etc.

Could you get a dry erase board?

I recycle or cut them up for scraps to use for gluing projects

@PinkElephant: oh it's ok! There's just SO many I feel like it's still wasting, in a sense. @Mrs. Lion: that's a good option, we have a chalk wall but it doesn't work great because we attempted magnet under it and it doesn't erase well.

I thought you were saying that paint/crayon/whatever shouldn't be recycled, and was thinking...."umm...uh-oh" One other thing I do is hoard the "better" pieces (things that took more than 20 seconds, use pretty colors, etc.) and save them to mail as thank you notes/birthday/just because cards - it's win/win because it also saves me time sitting down and making a million projects at once at birthday/holiday time.

I frequently mail them to someone who would be getting a card or something soon. Today she asked to paint a picture for grandma and grandpa- perfect!

How about cut up cereal boxes and other products and draw on the inside. WhenLO was little she used to go to town on Costco boxes. Also sidewalk chalk washes away. Napkins. Draw one side. Use the other.

The Busy Toddler blog suggests using a plastic shower curtain for painting, then you can just wash it off and reuse.

I save the better ones and cut them into squares or use paper stampers and cut them into decorative shapes, paste into blank cards and use as cards to family and as thank you cards.
Done the same to make coasters for grandparents.

I wonder if you could use tempera paint on a cookie sheet, then wash and reuse.
