So I just placed an order for an owlet smart sock 2- ouch for the price. If any mama’s out there can give pros and cons I would be appreciative - I’m due in a couple weeks with our 2nd. I don’t feel I would have normally purchased one, except in the time of Covid it feels like it is worth it... we used to have a motion sensor for under the mattress with our monitor (voice only) but it was unreliable and turned off after a few false alarms. Thanks in advance.

I’ve really liked having ours. I have only had to check on her once for a real alarm. It was when she had a cold, and while I think part of it was that the sock wasn’t entirely on, she probably did need to be checked on. We’ve had a couple false alarms when the sock wasn’t on quite right, but it plays a different sound when that happens, so it isn’t terrifying. I also really liked it just as a sleep tracker when she was tiny, and I could see how much sleep she got each night, and how frequent the wake ups were. It was a good way to track things over time. LO is almost one. Normally I’d pass mine along now, but am keeping it just in case we get the virus.

We used the sock and camera and liked the sock a lot. The camera didn't work well on our wi-fi and drove us nuts with the errors and such, but this was about 6 months ago, so I'm sure the app has been updated now. The sock also gave us some false alarms at first, but it was because our little guy was small. As soon as he grew a bit, we stopped getting them.

@Jess1483: thanks for sharing about the different types of alarms! I guess it also gives you an idea of how much you sleep (or don’t). Ha. Glad to hear it is still useful even after a year. Thanks for the feedback.

@foodiebee: about how many weeks did it take him to grow into it, if you don’t mind me asking? Or was it a weight thing?
Also wanted to see if anyone ever saw a burn on the foot. Saw claims on that online. Hoping that is because they didn’t follow recommendations like switching the foot.

I truly don't recall, but it wasn't that long at all or I imagine we would've found it too annoying to keep using it. He was 6.5 lb at birth. And I a) wasn't aware of the recommendation to switch the feet and b) have never heard of it burning them!! No, we never ever saw a burn or noticed it even get warm.

@foodiebee: he was little! I’m being told to expect a 8.5 lber... which seems huge to my first 6 lb 13 ozer
As for the “burns” they look more like skin sensitivity but Im no doctor - but I feel like there’d be a recall if it was truly a widespread issue- or I’d hope so. I mean my kid had diaper rash that looked waaaaaay worse.

@Bmaja: we have always used the same foot...oops. But nothing ever remotely close to a burn. My 7lb9oz baby didn’t fit it right away—probably 2 weeks before it worked correctly. But she has tiny feet. She comes nowhere near fitting 6-12 month shoes and she’s nearly 1!

Just wanted to provide an update in case anyone is considering the owlet. I like it so far, two nights in. We had one low o2, spoke to dr and she wasn’t concerned as babies foot is blue (hands also) and so could be causing some issue. She did coach on how to respond to alarm which is to wait and not startle baby. I’m no doctor - so please consult with your own physician first - but she said grab a mirror and look for it to fog under their nose, watch their chest, or watch to see if they turn blue - first. See if their body recovers. If it does then ok, continue to monitor. If it happens more call. Things I don’t like so far. No way to silence the base station. Have a heavy sleeper older sibling - but afraid of impacts for her.
Overall, I appreciate this technology, especially in the time of covid (but even without it). I wish it was cheaper though!
