Ugh!! That sucks! It's great to hear how helpful Nordstrom is being.

We live on a fairly busy street and I'm worried about our packages this year. I don't normally order so much online.

It has! It was partly our fault though. My husband had a package sent to the house while we were away. When we got back, we found just an empty box. It was a more expensive one of a kind jacket that he had been eyeing for a long time. We reported it to the police but they were pretty useless. Luckily, he bought it with his amex and they refunded part/all of the money to him. Fedex also gave him some money back. Then, my husband found it listed on ebay! Location was from a city next to our city. We knew it had to be it! We went to the detective with this info and they still said they can't do anything. It was listed for a fraction of the retail price - they obviously had no idea how much it was really worth. I told him not to buy it out of principal. But he ended up getting it anyway. So in the end, he paid just a fraction of the original price. We definitely learned our lesson though. We track packages like a hawk now.

@T-Mom: UPS has started sending me alerts a day or two prior to a delivery. They even give a time range of when delivery will be and so far they've been on track. I've been really liking this feature.

That stinks I had some Penzey's spices stolen off of my porch when we lived in an apartment...the company replaced it and as much as it irritated me, I always get a chuckle imagining the thief eagerly opening his/her loot and getting.... Cinnamon.

@BoogieBea: Whoa! That is such a crazy story! I would have left some kind of negative review on eBay afterwards at least noting you knew it was stolen, etc. Crazy!

Yes, but I got it back thanks to a fellow mom in the neighborhood! I was expecting a package but no one came by (no doorbell) until in the evening when LO was eating dinner the doorbell rang. I looked outside and was a bit skeptical because it was a woman. I opened the door and she said she has my package and I was like uh....? She went to her car (there were two kids inside her car that she was talking to) and got an opened package out. It has my stuff in it. She said they were in a park and saw a few boxes gathered. All of them is emptied except mine.. Which contained children books, a children lunch box, some body cream for babies and what not. Apparently the person who took these boxes didn't want kids' stuff. She said she felt bad that a mother is waiting for these things so she took the box and follow the address and come back to give it to me. She saw that I was very skeptical and she even called her two kids to come out and say hi to me. I was very thankful to her.... After that I feel like I was in a "mom club", sort of like fight club, except that it Is a secretly club where moms watch out for each other.

We have a security camera at the front door, so far, none of our packages have been stolen.

I used to work at the J.Crew call center in college, and you'd be surprised how frequently this happens! We got tons and tons of calls about stolen packages. It's sad.

We always had to tell the customer to check with the shipper first, and sometimes we would have to call FedEx ourselves. Sometimes the delivery man would just put the package in a really random spot -- trying to hide it so that it wouldn't get stolen. There would be J.Crew boxes in bushes, under decks... crazy places!

@skipra: I remember you posting about this! The police helped you get it back right? Crazy neighbors are a big annoyance!

I'm always afraid of this since we live in an apartment complex.
When it's something important I send it to my parents (down the road a few minutes) since one of them is almost always home. Or work.

@T-Mom: Yes. One year ALL my nieces and nephews presents were stolen from my brothers front step. I was so mad because a lot of them were handmade or personalized items.

I guess I should stop complaining that I have to pick up my packages at the post office ...

DH and I had Black Friday Amazon packages stolen. After calling them, replacements were sent. Somebody got childproof locks and a 32G USB drive in our neighborhood.
