So I turned on the oven tonight to make a frozen pizza (DS was already asleep upstairs and DH is out with friends). I totally forgot that I put two pot covers in the broiler drawer. They each have plastic knobs. A few minutes after I turned on the oven I noticed smoke and saw that one cover started melting, the other caught fire. I put the fire out, took the pot covers outside and ventilated the room. DS remained sleeping upstairs the whole time; I've been checking on him, he seems fine. Other than being totally freaked out, I feel okay, but I just noticed there was some soot in my nostrils. Has anything similar happened to anyone before? I'm getting a bit panicky about chemicals released into the air from the burning plastic and possible smoke inhalation.
