What kind of paint do you let your LO's paint with? We have some of the Crayola finger paints and then the little jars of Crayola paints that they like to use. We also have several water color paints that I prefer since they tend to be a little less messy 
We go through paint so much though, I'm wondering if there is some sort of "bulk" option or DIY paint.

I bought a set of paint at Home Depot a while ago, I really like them because they have squeeze tops...they're technically art paint, but they were like $10 for a pack of 20 Pantone colors. My son likes to mix colors, so these keep the base colors "clean."

We also have the tempera cakes, I haven't tried those yet with my son yet.

We have Crayola finger paint squeeze tubes, and big Tempra bottles. I got the Tempra paint at Walmart really cheap for a big bottle, so I don't feel bad letting them go to town with a lot of paint (which is what they prefer). Our friends have the little Crayola paint pots, which my kids like, but I feel like they mix up the colors with those. I like being able to squeeze the paint onto a plate and let them mix it up to their hearts' content.
