We’ve always painted every room in our house a different color, but in a palette that goes together so it’s not jarring or anything. I repainted our kitchen last winter and want to paint the living room/stairway/upstairs hallway the same color but DH thinks it would be boring. It’s a light airy neutral color, and I think it would be great in all those spaces. All the other rooms connected to these spaces would still be different colors. What do you think?

@HappyBaker: Our entire two story house is painted the same color - light grey. To me it’s more cohesive that way, the furniture and decor adds color. So I vote yes!

I desperately want to paint our entire downstairs and upstairs hallway the same color. I'm just terrified of the $$ and picking the wrong color. I think it looks nice and cohesive.

We hired a designer and had an entire first floor remodeling and everything is in the same color : light grey. The same color go up to the stairs and first floor landing / hallway. That's a very professional interior design thing to do

Yes! Our entry hall, upstairs hall, and kitchen are all the same color, and we’re planning on painting our family room and guest room the same color too. We like it, it’s neutral so we can change out decor easily, and we know those are areas we won’t want to paint often.

We're building a house right now and our entire house will be painted the same greige color. I like having the same color in every room!

We painted almost our whole house one color. Kids’ rooms were different and we had a lot of accent walls in different rooms. I love it!

Yes our main living spaces on our first floor and the upstairs hallway was all painted BM Swiss Coffee. The formal dining room, while visible from the two other spaces had end points and we were able to paint that a different color.

Thanks guys! I know this is a thing but DH thinks I’m crazy haha. Hoping to sway him because I think it would look great! If it were up to him we’d have red and purple rooms haha

Our entire house is one color. It's not the exact color I would have picked but I do love having the whole thing feel so cohesive.

Most of the our house is the same color. Our bedroom, kids bedrooms, and dining room are different but not jarringly so.

Our bathrooms are one color and all other rooms are an off-white color. I like it, and I think it makes the rooms feel bigger and more cohesive. The house I grew up in was all white, so that seems normal to me. My husband's childhood home on the other hand was the opposite. Each room was a dark different color. I think it makes the house/rooms feel small.

Our old house was all one color except the hall bath, nursery, and our bedroom. I didn't mind it, and it's easier to change curtains/throw pillows/art than it is to paint.

@irene: Same. My cousin is a professional painter and he recommends his clients do this. Our upstairs hallway same as landing and downstairs inchding powder bath all same grey. I did do one accent wall in living room in the nook a slightly deeper color grey. Then our bedrooms were different colors (and not grey

Lol from where I’m sitting all I can see is greige and off white, so....
I think it’s fine! Our whole downstairs was painted off white (BM sail cloth) when the previous owners put it on the market. When we removed the 90’s wallpaper from the foyer and upstairs landing and hallway we did it all edgecomb gray. Bedrooms are different colors but all the living areas are the same.
What about different shades of a similar color- for example exgecomb gray in the hall and stairs and reversed pewter in the dining room and living room? It’s close to the same color, fever pewter is just a bit darker. (Those are just popular examples, onviouslyyou would pick your own color). Would that ease your husband into it?

@dc yoga bee: After we did our remodeling, we transitioned DS from a toddler room into a big boy room. We changed all carpeting to hardwood too and decide to paint all the rooms. I took him to a paint store with a thousand color chips and (fearfully) let DS pick a color for his room, and he insisted it must be grey! I am not making this up, he said he loves downstairs so much he wants his room to be exactly like that LOL. So I convinced him to do a shade darker in his room and the same with our room and guest bedroom.

@irene: wow! If i let my 5 year old daughter do that her room would be so, so purple. I love purple but I fear what shade of extremely purple she would choose.

Our entire apartment is painted white and I love it. I’m afraid of wall color.

our entire home is all one color. I prefer it that way and agree with@wrkbrk: that we rely on drapes, furniture, and other decor to bring color and subtle changes to each space. Those things are lot less permanent and easier to change than wall color.

We just bought a new house and are painting it all one color (light gray - it's actually called Repose Gray from Sherwin Williams.)
@irene: I took my kids with us to pick out the one color we're painting the house, and my 3 year old son said he wanted to pick a different color for his room and I was like, "Oh boy, what color would you pick?" He wanted white.
