@Foodnerd81: I agree with everything @Truth Bombs: said...especially getting him in today!

However, if you got the flu shot while pregnant in theory you should have passed some of the immunity on to the bambino...so maybe take some relief in that?

I got the flu when my son was I think 16 or 18 weeks. We might have been overly cautious but here's what we did:

1) I went to a medexpress clinic right away. They did the rapid test for the flu and confirmed right on the spot that I had it (fwiw I also had the flu shot last year but it was not a very effective shot last year, per the cdc)
2) they prescribed tamiflu. It was actually hard to find and I had to visit a few pharmacies.
3) I scrubbed the crap out of my hands at home and used a lot of hand sanitizer
4) My husband thinks he eventually got it, but before he started to feel sick, he took care of the baby mostly. We really limited my exposure.
5) Once we felt that I was probably less contagious than him (again it wasn't confirmed he had the flu - he actually tested negative - but we wanted to be safe) I took over most of the care.
6) this is where we maybe went overboard, but we were scared - we wore masks! We got the paper ones from the drug store and wore them around him.
7) almost forgot - for the worst of it, we actually hired someone to come and do night wakings. When I felt miserable and was really contagious. Like the first 2-3 days I think. Not sure if that's an option or if any family can help? (This is if you get it too, I guess)
8) we also Lysoled a lot.

@Foodnerd81: Oh I feel you - and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you...I am 5 days from my due date and DH tells me last night "this cold is really bad...I need to just lay down an rest"...we have the same damn head cold but I am toughing it out to take care of K. When I said this he responded with "well you dont seem as sick as me?" ya because someone has to be the parent not the sick pathetic grown man...right?

Why cant men just tough it out like us?

@Mrs D: I've just started behaving a bit like he does when he's sick. I had a bad cold and cough last week, and I also get headaches just about weekly. So I just decided that when I don't feel well I will say I'm going to rest. And I will nap, read, watch tv, whatever.

Granted we only have one LO and I'm not pregnant. But if he can go take a 4 hour nap when he has a cold, I can take a 2 hour break. Surprisingly he doesn't fight me on it. He agrees!

@Mrs D: I just think that moms are always thinking they can't take a sick day...but why not? I SAH so obviously during the work day I'm kinda on my own. But in the evening or on weekends I have no qualms saying I don't feel well, I'm going to lie down.
(But in general he's pretty hands on and we do a lot of give and take with tasks and breaks, and taking turns sleeping in, stuff like that - I know other couples where the husband just isn't hands on so I think the "sick day" wouldn't work for the mom).

@Foodnerd81: Could you send the kids to a daycare drop off place if the flu/cold gets really bad? I did that on maternity leave when I was literally too sick to care for my infant. It gave me a day of rest to recover. Just a thought.

@Foodnerd81: Do you guys have any urgent care places near you? We've had a ton pop up around where live and where we work in Burlington. He could get in and out in an hour.

FWIW, my DH always thinks he's coming down with the flu and it is ALWAYS a cold. I hope that is the case in your house.

I can't stand when my dh has a cold and it's a "mild flu because we got the flu shot but still worse than a cold." Edit to add though he usually "adults" anyway, just not without the drama, lol.

@Foodnerd81: that'd bug me too. It really bothers me if he doesn't try to take care of himself then gets sick and/or gets the kids sick and then I'm supposed to take care of all three, and be sick myself. Thankfully dh has gotten on board for the flu shot this year!
