I might be traveling internationally w/LO next month so yesterday I had to get her passport picture taken. Trying to get a passport photo of a 7 month old = NIGHTMARE! 30 minutes and LOTS of tears later, we finally had a picture that (hopefully) the gov't will accept!
How was your passport picture experience?

We got LO's passport pic done when she was 3.5 months old and it was hard just holding her head up straight. But it was fine!

easy peasy. charlie took one at 3 months and again at 2 1/2 years, and olive took one at 10 months. olive's passport picture is one of my favorite pictures of her ever!

Really?? I wonder why we had such a hard time! It was so hard getting her to stay still and she kept throwing back her head and screaming.

@MungBean: our photographer at the photo shop was great. he used olive's toy to get her to look straight into the camera.

We got it when my babe was about 6 weeks old. The hardest part was getting him to open his eyes! They propped him up in a little baby seat against a white background and basically everyone around was yelling his name and trying to get him to wake up.

Really easy, we just laid him down and they took the photo from above, much easier than propping!

Does anyone know how long it takes to get a US passport for your child if they are born internationally so they can travel? While we're living overseas we'll likely leave the country we're working in and go to Europe or South Africa to have our babies, but I'm wondering how long it would take to get paper to go home. Sorry to threadjack!

I've taken a few, throwing a white sheet over the baby bucket carseat turned out the best for me.

Char had to have one done for her passport and she has to take another for her UK visa. She actually did really well. The guy just laid her on a changing pad covered in a white sheet and she laid there and stared at him.
@Arden: We went to the US Embassy in London to do C's passport, Certificate of Birth Abroad and SS Card and we got everything back in 3 weeks.

We did it at 5 weeks and had to lie DS down on the floor with the photographer standing above him. There was no way we could get him to hold his head up straight! In the UK babies up to one year are allowed to have their eyes closed, one ear does not need to be showing etc, I guess someone in the passport office realised it's nigh on impossible to take a proper photo with an infant

As for our baby passport pics, I did it at home. I had her on a baby lounger covered in a white sheet. Instead of using the picture editing tool they have on the US govt site, I used this one because it saves it much larger. I then saved it into 6 pictures together, so I can print it out as a normal sized picture.
Since the site had the option to have them print it, I figured might as well do it as a back-up. Well, the pictures turned out so well! They actually EDITED the background! Instead of folds of white sheet, it's just plain white! I should have gotten them to do it from the beginning - I wasted so many hours retaking them because of shadow! They look professional!

Ugh, I've been putting of having DD's passport photo taken as it just sounds like so much work. Australian govt says eyes must be completely open, staring directly at the camera, mouth closed in a neutral pose (no smiling), and there must not be any part of another person in the photo (ie someone steadying the head or something like that). DD is 3 months old and I know we need to get this done soon as we fly out in 9 weeks, but I'm just dreading it!

@Ree723: what worked best for me is I only tried a few minutes a day. it took a few days to get a usable picture, but then I never had to deal with a crying baby.

We first did passport photos at 9 weeks and it was a nightmare!! Then my DH took LO to get another set a couple of weeks ago (at 6.5 months) and he said they went so much better!
