If you've applied for a passport lately, what was the turnaround time on it? We are applying for ours soon but just curious the average time it takes to get them back. I know it varies!

I think it was around 6 weeks.

We're lucky, since we do it from abroad, it only takes a week!

@Bao: I read that they're rolling out a new passport in July. So depending on when you need it by, you might want to wait for the new one or get in your application before then!

DH used to work at a passport processing center. It took about a month, but this was 10 years ago.

We got DD her passport last year around this time and it took 5 weeks to get it back, I think (didn't pay for expediting).
However, I've been reading that they are expecting passport renewals to really increase starting this year because of the huge surge in applications when the Canada/Mexico rules changed 10 years ago. So I would make sure to give yourself extra time. My mom applied for her passport during that first crunch and it took FOREVER - she barely had it in time to leave for her trip!

Renewals we usually get back within 4 weeks.

I got mine and E's back in less than 2 weeks, but that was in late 2013.

We just got LO's and renewed DH's last month. Both came back in about 10 days. We didn't pay for expedited, but it was fast.

It's guaranteed within 6 weeks, but is usually faster. Expedited is 3 weeks and is $80 more. We got LO's expedited just in case, even though we had about 8 weeks before we have to have it. The guy at the office gave me crap but we can afford the extra cost and if something goes wrong like the paperwork being lost we have time to deal with it.
Also, in our area it took over a month just to get in, so I'd be sure and plan early just in case.
