We told our pastor and his wife that we were pregnant after service today, and she's already outted us on Facebook! We were planning on leaving it off the internet for another week or two, but she was so excited about our children's pastor's engagement and our news that she posted a status about it this afternoon. I'm a little bummed with her, but it's nice to know that she's so excited.

Oh no! Can you delete the comment?? I disabled my FB wall from like weeks 11 to 14 until we had a chance to tell everyone - too many family members that love to post!

Wow. You are taking this I lot better than I would. I would be really really upset about that. Even when people are REALLY far along I NEVER say anything on Facebook until they do. I would reach out to her and ask her to remove the post and tell her you want to share the news on your own schedule.

I just laughed because she's the type of lady who when we told her yelled really loudly. She's sorry that she outted us (which I appreciate). Within the minute she posted it, it had something like 7 likes and 3 comments, so I guess I can't feel too bad since people are happy for us. It wasn't super private news at this point, several people at church already heard, as well as family.

Ugh I have a similar story except it was my mom! And we had specifically talked about it! Luckiy I saw it immediately and had her delete it, but one of my best friends saw :'(

My uncle did this, but I caught it fairly quickly. Kudos for taking it so well. I was so annoyed, especially since I specifically said we'd be waiting awhile to put it on FB.

Because so many had already seen hers, and many are friends of ours, I just told Hubs that I wanted to post our official announcement, and he felt that was okay.

Aww that sucks. But hopefully that will be a lesson to the rest of us.... always say no posting on Facebook when sharing the good news!

@MamaMoose: I agree with you 100%. I disabled wall comments until we announced our pregnancy because I didn't want anyone to spill the beans for us.
We were already really, really upset that a family member told other family members, especially after we made it extremely clear that they weren't to tell ANYONE until we reached the second tri.

O I feel for you! My grandpa did the same thing to me! I mailed a picture of to my dad of my daughter holding up a sign saying , " I'm going to be a big sister!" My dad sent a pic to my grandpa , who immediately posted it to his facebook! I was so embarassed to have that talk with my pappaw, but he did delete it before anyone but immediate family saw it ( I think) I am currently 14 weeks and haven't outted myself on FB yet.

We followed the thought process that we didn't tell anyone that could potentially leak the information before we were ready to announce. For this reason, we didn't tell my MIL until 12 weeks. We told my parents at 7, but they were sworn to secrecy and didn't say anything.

I was very worried about this and told MIL that it is not public info and would appreciate her family members (aunts/uncles) not to post anything. Our friends and family who know have been very gracious to keep it mum on all internet outlets and while I've gotten a couple of FB private messages; we've been able to keep it off the public eye for the last two months.

At first I thought it was kind of sweet that the pastor's wife was so excited... but then I thought some more about it, and she must come across private information like this all the time. Hopefully she doesn't post about it too Facebook too often!
I am also inspired by how well you guys are taking this!

@MrBee: I totally agree re the breach of confidentiality. The fact that she is supposed to be well-versed in maintaining confidentiality (whether it be happy news or otherwise) makes this even worse.
Even though I swore her to secrecy, my mom told my brother that DH and I are expecting. I wanted to (and did) tell my brother in a unique way, but when I finally spoke to my brother about it, he confessed that he had known for almost a month. To say that I was disappointed was an understatement. I did call my mom out about it, and tried to be really respectful (because she is my mom), but you only get one first, and I wanted her to understand how disappointed I was.

@mrbee: It's wasn't told as confidential info, per se. If you tell her that something is to be kept quiet, she's great about that. Our church new when we miscarried last summer, and she especially was there for me. She also knew what a struggle it's been not getting pregnant.
@chopsuey119: Exactly! More to be excited with us, more to help us grieve if the worst happens again.
