How do you deal with it/minimise mess? About 50% of the time I change her, S thinks the changing mat is a great place to empty her bladder. Maybe it's the cool air, I don't know. It gets everywhere... always up her back and onto whatever clothes she has on.
Am I missing a trick, or is this just another perk of caring for a baby?

We were gifted way too many receiving blankets, so I always lay one on the changing table (on top of the cover). That way I can just quickly toss the messy one and replace it with another. Major messes of course go through the receiving blanket AND the cover

We put the new diaper under the old one and font move it until we are ready to cover her. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

They are great. We put one on top of our regular changing pad cover and can switch them out with the blink of an eye without having to change the whole cover every time she pees.

Same as smocks- waterproof liners. Probably half of her newborn changes ended up with pee everywhere or using two ore more diapers. It was short lived though- she stopped peeing all the time by 8 weeks or earlier.
At least with a girl it's on the changing pad, not your far and the wall like with a boy!

We use the boppy changing liners @smocks: mentioned. Love them!! Easy to clean and swap out. Super useful when we were cleaning up blowouts too!

We have the liners as well. I also leave the diaper under her if I can, depending on the poop situation to catch anything.

@Foodnerd81: Um. Yea.... When DS was sleeping in the crib next to our bed as a newborn, I'd change him ON our bed and I probably washed my entire bed every day. LOL!! I even lined where he laid down with a towel, and that didn't do much. He stopped doing that after a month I think - thank goodness. But man!
