If you tear while giving birth, doesn't it hurt a lot to pee? I haven't been in this situation yet, but I feel like it must be super painful and it's one of my biggest fears!

They cut me, then I tore the rest of the way. It is painful, but not like unbearable. Plus they give you a squirt bottle and that feels so good!

I was cut and tear and didn't have an epidural, and never had any pain while peeing...not that there wasn't ANY pain there, but peeing didn't cause any.

I don't think I was in any pain. Most people have more issues with going #2!

They told me I didn't tear but I must have had a teeny one at least because when I first peed it stung pretty good. It mostly scared me though because I didn't expect it.

Ok, any of you had a UTI? It is painful.
So would you say that peeing after giving birth is no where near as painful as a UTI?

The squirt bottle helped relieve the sting. Actually going pooping that was a whole other story. I tore to the second degree

I used the squirt bottle to spray some water down there while I peed. It helped dilute the urine so the ammonia didn't burn the tear. It really wasn't that bad.

I had a second degree tear, it stung for a few days
But the squirt bottle was very helpful.

@bluestriped bee: no, its not like having a UTI... I've had my share of those and it's different. After an epidural, the only thing is it might take a while for you to feel like you have to pee. So you may think you don't have to go, but it's probably a good idea to sit on the toilet for a bit with running water and try to go a few hours after, especially since you've had IV fluids running. Your nurse should help you with this. It's really not a horrible experience. Going #2 for the first time is a little more mentally taxing IMO.

Fyi. Going #2 wasn't that bad either. It was way more scary to think about than the actual experience was.

I had a second degree tear and it was more relieving to pee that first time than painful. It took me awhile because I had so much in my bladder and I was tense but it was no problem.

The squirt bottle will be your best friend. I used it every time so I was ok!

I had 3rd degree tears and peeing wasn't that bad. I couldn't feel the fullness of my bladder for about half a day. It was the weirdest thing--I didn't have the urge to pee, but when I went, I went a lot!
