Baby and I are playing out front (well I'm working on papers and only half way playing). Anyways our front yard isn't so big so she's just waving at everyone that goes by us, like vigorously waving and cooing at them. The last 5 people who have walked by have put their head down and looked away when they see her waving. Most people at least give a little smile. I donno, I just find it bizarre to act annoyed at a baby waving to you. I live in a college town so I feel like some of the kids are afraid they'll catch a baby disease if they acknowledge a baby.

They are lame!!! I love when kids smile at me. Actually, I'm always the one smiling at THEM. ha

UH. THAT REALLY BUGS me. Sometimes I wanna yell out "my baby's waving at you! Wave back!!"

@Maysprout: That annoys me!! I had a cashier the other day who didn't even acknowledge LO & she was clapping & waving & being all coy & adorable looking right at her!! I understand some people aren't into kids but it was like she thought it was awkward!! Umm hello not saying anything is way more awkward IMHO

I think that's just plain rude!! The baby hasn't done anything to you, but be friendly. What's wrong with smiling and waving back?? Sheesh!

haha I always wave and smile back at babies, but I usually only say hi and talk to the baby if hte parents look "normal" I don't want to affend someone or freak them out with my baby obsession!

that is soo bizarre. I would never do that, even before becoming a mom. I always laughed and would usually engage the baby and mom.

Ya, some people are just so weird! Whenever my son claps and smiles at peole, they usually clap back. But sometimes we'll run into a grumpy old man who just scoffs and walks away. So rude! Come on! It's a happy baby! How can you not love happy babies? lol

Weird! We're in a very family friendly neighborhood, people always wave at us and say hi.

People tend to ignore our kids and engage the dog. They always comment on the cute dog and fail to comment on the adorable well-dressed girls. I find that really weird!!

Yeah I'm wondering how to explain that to her as she gets older. 'Not everyone is going to respond and some people might even give you a strange look'
@Mrs. Jacks: I've noticed that too. I've been chalking it up to being in a college town because when I go home I get a lot more comments on cute baby from strangers but here people just want to pet our dogs.

@sulli301: haha yeah it is awkward! I don't know what to do with myself either when someone's trying to out grump baby's cheer. I usually go with smile and ignore it but in my head I'm thinking 'jeesh, what's your deal, is it that hard to say hi to someone who's saying hi to you'

I really hate that because I can't help but feel like my LO will just stop waving one day because she will think people do not give a crap.

@Mrs. Jacks: What?! As someone who is less than enthusiastic about dogs, that is completely mind boggling to me.
Some people seem to miss the memo that children are human beings, not projectile-vomiting aliens bent on taking over the earth. It's not so hard to show a little courtesy to a baby who is naturally oblivious of stranger danger.
