We're going vasectomy, but no experience yet. We're waiting till LO is old enough that we feel 100% confident we're one and done. My understanding is that it's much less invasive to have him do it than if I do.

When we're done having kids, DH will get a vasectomy. But we're not done yet so no experience. It is way less invasive though.

DH got the snip today actually! We wanted something permanent, and tubal ligation is much more of a major surgery. Took 20 minutes, he has some mild discomfort-- pretty glad we made this decision.

I plan on getting a tubal ligation. But I have c sections so I'm already having surgery.

I had a tubal ligation during my c section with my daughter. It was our plan all along that if I was able to get pregnant a second time I would get a tubal during delivery. I am nearly four years out and I don't regret it although I did have moments of what I describe as "weird" thoughts.
As my belly started deflating after delivering my daughter I looked in the mirror and thought "wow I will never be pregnant again." I wasn't sad I just sort of made the observation. I also thought a lot about how weird it was to have struggled with IF but then I was making the choice to tie my tubes. I knew logically I had been pregnant twice, had four kids, and did not want to be pregnant again but it was just weird to think I permanently making myself "infertile." Like I said I don't have regrets but I do think about it from time to time.

I'll be following this. I want tubal litigation probably next year. It will be on its own, so I'm interested to hear from anyone who had it done by itself. I guess it's laparoscopic when done by itself, which doesn't seem too bad.

Has anyone had the essure? They seem to push it pretty hard at my ob.

@Mrs. Microscope: The FDA actually just re-opened an investigation into Essure - apparently there have been a lot of scary-sounding complaints.

@ms.line: good to know! I would be several years out from getting it anyway, time to study it more!

Dh got a vasectomy 3 months ago. He said he was sore for a couple days but not too bad. He just got checked yesterday and it was successful! He got a non surgical procedure done so I think that helped the recovery

@ustechie: I had it done during my csection. It was a few extra minutes in the surgery and nothing extra for recovery.

@Mrs. Train: hopefully in. It thread jacking here, but I totally know what you mean wth the weird feelings. You spend so much of your life avoiding getting pregnant. Then can spend so much time TRYING to get pregnant. Then, bam, take measures to make sure you don't get pregnant again. It's just a weird thing.
I'm just following this because I'm not sure what we will do. I will get an IUD after this baby is born and we are pretty certain we are done, but I'm not ready for any permanent measures for a few more years.

Another option is uterine ablation. It's not officially approved as birth control, it is for heavy period elimination, but from what I have read, it's nearly impossible for implantation to occur after the procedure.

@erinpye: Was the procedure done at the urologist's office?
No experience yet but DH will likely get a vasectomy in the next year or so.
