I know I would love one, but the design needs to be toned down. Not so grand.
I'm thinking about getting one of these for a wedding in September I'm going to.
Zulily has them on their site.

The first one is super cute! I'd like it, but I'd be scared to use it!

I voted other; for where I am, the price of one of those is no where near enough to count as wedding gift. I had been tempted to get them for shower gifts though! So if the price is not an issue, then yes, it would be a cute gift!

Here are some designs that I don't like. I mean, if I got it as a gift, I would still love it. But if I had a choice in it, I would choose something subtle, like above.

Nay to the options you showed, but if it was a small personalization in the corner, on a really pretty cutting board I'd go for it. For the ones pictured, I'd be afraid of the etched areas eventually getting dirty from use and being hard to clean.

@snowjewelz: Oh, yeah, this would be a side gift. The big gift would be money. This is really a gift from me to the bride. I'm sure the guys don't care. Haha.

@Mrs.Someone: Like this one better? Only downside is there is no date for their wedding.
I would definitely get this, if they gave me the option to put a date.

@bluestriped bee: Yep, I like that one better! Bummer there isn't a date though.

@bluestriped bee: Oh then heck yeah! Women sure do appreciate this stuff

Nay for most of these because my practical side will worry that there will be food trapped in the little crevices and make it more of a hassle to clean... and the engraving will get messed up by my knives.
I do like the last one you posted with the heart in the corner - it's cute!

I would love one as a gift! Of the ones you posted, I like the 2nd last one the best (with the names and date in a circle). You could combine it with a knife set, maybe? Oh, and get the special cleaning solution as well!

@bluestriped bee: I like the board with the heart!

@Mrs. High Heels: Oh, good point. Never thought of that. Yeah, I wonder how deep the engraving is.

I wouldn't want one - I'd rather get something off of the registry.

@bluestriped bee: We have a variation of the top one (from Etsy) and we use it for display only, not cooking / chopping. We absolutely love it, but it's especially significant to us because we met at a park.

@night cheese: Oh, yeah. The registry! Yeah, I'll probably get something from their registry... maybe if they have a knife set. I haven't even seen the invitation yet. (They did send a save-the-date.) The wedding is 3 months away.

I voted nay, but I'm torn. I love the last one you posted! It's subtle, practical, and personalized. I don't think you need the date. They will remember when they got married
I received one for my wedding and while I appreciate the sentiment there were several opinions I have about it. It's glass and I don't really like glass cutting boards, it's not my style (tuscan wine glasses), and it was personalized with my husband's last name, aka "The Smiths". I kept my last name.
I think the more basic/subtler the better, but that's JMO.

I like the simple one with the heart. And I don't think it matters there's no date.
My sister has something like this, and she just uses the other side for actual cutting. That way you don't mess up the etching and don't worry about crevices.

I live this idea! We received two for our wedding. One with just the first letter of our last name, one in the shape of the state and a different color of stain in the city we got married in. I'll try to remember to post a picture later! We do t use them, I have them on display.

@TemperanceBrennan: Hehe! Good point!
For me, I would love a glass one because I can put it in the dishwasher. I know with these wood ones, you can't. They had one glass one that was polka dots. Eh! Not my style.

@babyjmama: Kinda like this one? Oh, that's so cute that you have one with the city, too!
pear / 1998 posts
@bluestriped bee: The glass one is just so loud when you cut things and there is no friction to pivot knives. We use recycled plastic ones and they go in the diswasher.
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@babyjmama: Now that some of you are bringing up the fact that they are used as displays, now makes to doubt my decision. Hmmm... decisions...
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@TemperanceBrennan: Oh, yeah? Good to know. Yeah, the noise would bother me. Yup, I have the cheap plastic ones, too.

I voted nay, but I do like the one with the small heart in the lower right-hand corner. I actually like that it doesn't have a wedding date . . . it's not like their life together/love began on the day of the wedding.

@bluestriped bee: sort of, the board itself is the shape of our state, it's kansas so not as hard to carve the core to the board is actually wood that was cut from a tree off DHs family land. SO special.
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@MsLipGloss: Good point. I'm now leaning towards the small heart one. It's still functional with the empty space in the middle.

@bluestriped bee: mine are fed on display, not for use. I would say the state shape one is one of my favorite items!!!
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@babyjmama: So where do you have them displayed? On the counter or wall or something?
grapefruit / 4136 posts
@bluestriped bee: on the wall in our breakfast nook, I only have that one out now the 'c' one is in storage for now bc I still haven't figured out where I want to put it

I would prefer an etched glass or metal one vs wood just for sanitary reasons. But I like them for decoration!
pomegranate / 3127 posts
Very cute! And it's something they could use every day, or hang on a wall, or both FWIW we have one that's got a wood-burned design instead of etching, and it's real easy to clean.

@bluestriped bee: I have one and I love it. I mainly use the other side for cutting so I don't ruin the monogram. Awesome gift idea.

DH bought me one for our "wood" anniversary and I love it! I hung it on our kitchen wall, though. I don't actually use it.

I think it's cute, but I wouldn't want to use it!
