Yeah, if your dog isn't used to being outside for hours and hours in that kind of cold, I wouldn't try it either. He hasn't had time to acclimate to that.

We've stayed at pet friendly hotels when going down the shore (and sometimes for agility demos at pet expos). Usually they don't want the dog to be left alone in the room for safety reasons (what if housekeeping comes in and the dog gets loose, bites, etc.). You may pay a security deposit that is given back when they confirm the room hasn't been totaled.

I would ask for a room on the ground floor/near an exit so that you can easily go outside for potties. Some dogs are freaked out by elevators. If your dog crate trains and your crate is portable, it's nice to bring that and some familiar bedding.

Also, my dogs are noise reactive, so often I end up turning on the tv for them (low) so that it masks some of the hallway sounds and they don't start barking at inopportune moments. Don't forget to bring a water bowl

Motel 6 and Marriott properties! You're not supposed to leave your dog alone in the room, but we've had nice maids we just let them know that our blind and elderly dog was in the room. They've all been okay with it.

Yup lots of times! Hyatt and Kimpton are pet friendly and a lot of the independent hotels (more boutique) here in California are, so I'd ask around. Good luck!

All the time! Drury Inn & Suites is my favorite, they really go the extra mile to make you feel welcome with your pet.

A bunch of Starwood properties are pet friendly too with no charges either! I know Sheratons are and some Westins.
