My daughter is obsessed with both dogs and cats, just like her mom! I think my daughter prefers dogs though, mostly because they love for her to pet them. Cats can be more fickle, which she is still getting used to.
My son isn't as into animals, but if he had to choose, I think he prefers dogs. He is pretty similar to me, and I'm definitely a dog guy.

For some reason J just adores cats, even though dogs typically like him better and are more patient with him.
But I like dogs better! I would get a dog, but not a cat!

I *may* have put my thumb on the scale on this one. I love animals, but not the prevailing suburban/urban dog-owning 'culture', which has gotten out of control.

He seems equally excited to see both of them but we have a dog so he has a lot more experience with dogs! I'm definitely a dog person and don't care for cats.

We have a dog, so they are definitely dog people. I don't think they've actually met a cat, but they sometimes see the neighbor's cat on their front porch from a distance.

Cats by far! When I was 7 a Rottweiler bit my face from my right eye to my jaw, so that put me off for a long time. I'm not scared of dogs, but I don't really 'bond' with them or pat them or anything. I think that affects LOs as they're not into dogs either, I would never ever own one.

Cats - but I'm sure that's because that's what we have at home. She comes with me often for rescue transport and LOVES chihuahuas, or "Che-Che-was-wahs" 
whenever we meet a dog, she asks me if it is a chihuahua or not. If yes, she likes them. So basically, every dog we meet just happens to be a "chihuahua mix" lol even its the furthest thing from a chihuahua!

Both! It's crazy! We have a dog and she's obsessed with him and all other dogs. We also have neighborhood cats that are always around and she goes crazy when she sees them. She's a serious animal lover!

@Synchronicity: In my area there are a lot of really rude dog owners. Like, take pets (not service animals) into grocery stores and put them in the carts and leave a bag of dog poop on your neighbor's yard (or often just a pile...)-style rude. I also have concerns for the animals' welfare when owners have clearly selected breeds that just don't belong where they are. Like owning a Samoyed in a place where the average temp is 88 and it never snows or a high-energy breed in an apartment.

My 19mo lives with two cats but gets excited when he sees dogs on the sidewalk. One of our cats is incredibly patient with him, and as far as I know that is the only animal he had ever used as a pillow (never for more than 15 seconds or so).

We have two cats so I think they prefer those. When we visit friends or family with dogs they like them but they seem a little hesitant since they are usually big dogs.

She likes them all! We have a dog so I think she leans towards dogs because of that but she does love my parents cat, too.
