I know the holidays are over, but...

DH likes the one gift idea that he saw on "Blackish" because as he correctly notes we will likely buy our kids stuff year round and as Christmas approaches won't cut them off on new toys or things they want. This isn't to say our kids will get new stuff all the time, but they won't have to wait until Christmas or their birthday for their fill of new toys. I don't know how realistic one gift will actually be. Let's say we have a girl and she wants a doll house- well the doll house needs furniture and that's another gift or two to open. Our kids may receive additional gifts from their grandparents, aunts & uncles, but I didn't get stuff from extended family so to me that's just a big maybe.

What is your philosophy on winter holiday gift-giving? Do you cut off new toy purchases at some point? Do you give a lot throughout the year? Do your kids have to request something early and often?
