I've always taken a decent picture but am SO challenged when it comes to DS. I'm not talking like, backdrops, staged, that sort of thing. Just like, daily candid type stuff. The little bugger moves so fast!
If you're into photography, did you take classes? Read tutorials online? Any tips you could pass along?
Also - DH is a part time photographer for minor league hockey teams, so I have a Canon EOS 5D that he's passed on to me, with an assortment of lenses. No clue where to start.

I'm not a photographer ..... but my biggest tip since lo became a toddler is just keep shooting! I just keep taking pictures, and yes ill have a million bad ones, but usually one or two of them will turn out good at least.

Same thing as ArtBee said. Just keep shooting. f I'm constantly getting blurry ones, I'll use the action setting. But there are times where I'll tale 100 pictures and only get 5 keepers.

Use a prime lens with your 5D and back button focus. It'll track your LO for you and keep him in focus better than your other options

use a fast shutter speed to get shots of him moving so that your pics dont come out blurry. learn about aperture and shutterspeed and how they work together will be a good basis of how to use the camera. prime lenses are your friend and are good in low light. and agree @blackbird back buttton focusing is great to use...
online resources check out digital photography school and pioneer women. both have great free tutorials and articles.

Use a fast enough setting to avoid using your flash indoors when possible. Also try to shoot from his level.

I read through the two peas Ina pod online tutorials (free). It helped a bunch and at least let me know how to start playing.

I used to shoot 35mm in high school and did great, haha.. I have no idea how to use this thing and all my photos are so blurry. I'll definitely be checking out these sites.

I've found a lot of interesting things on pinterest that have helped me shoot manual - including Mrs. Bees blogs about it.
I'm the same though in that I shot manual with a 35mm in high school and now I'm struggling to switch to digital, especially capturing movement. I'm going to check out some of the above recos too!
