My daughter just had her 6th birthday on Saturday and her cake had hot pink icing. Could this be the reason for light pink poop this morning? Or could it be blood or something serious? I’m scared.

I would say it’s more than likely the icing. I almost had a heart attack last summer when the toilet bowl was bright red after my daughter had a BM, but quickly remembered she had a red Icee the day before. Her next BM was normal again, so I didn’t worry. If the issue had persisted, I would have contacted her doctor ASAP.

It is for sure the icing, especially if it was a vibrant color. I almost had a heart attack the first time this happened to us. Don’t worry!!!

@CatchAFallingStar: oh I meant if the icing was a vibrant color. My son had a bright red icing cupcake and his poop was a lighter red/pink. I think the more vibrant the icing, the more likely the poop will be a weird color. That’s my very unscientific poop theory

Yes dye can be scary in poop! But that’s not how blood in stool looks so definitely don’t worry about that. Probably just whatever part of the dye didn’t get broken down on the way through.

frosting! just flush with lots of water! it will go back to normal!

Yes to the frosting ... dd's cake last year was a bright color and we def. noticed in her poop afterwords!

Blood in poop usually looks black, so I wouldn't worry. Must be the frosting!

definitely the frosting! we had aqua colored poop after navy blue frosting a few years ago.

@mrs.kiwi: Yes! And, it was totally gone by her next poop, so definitely the food coloring. I threw away the rest of the cake and got her a new, all white one.
