My MIL emailed me asking for Sadie's Christmas list, so I've been putting a little list together for her. Santa is bringing Sadie a kitchen, so I was thinking her Memaw & Pawpaw can give her food to go with. I just did a little search for food on Amazon & there is SO MUCH. Any recommendations?

We've started adding some hand me down wooden food now, but out faves are still the stuffed/felt ones from Ikea combined with some empty, real grocery containers. Washable, affordable, and unlikely to damage anything when dropped or tossed.

Melissa & Doug play food is awesome! They even have some with Velcro and a pretend knife so your LO can "cut" it

I just found the velcro "cuttable" set from melissa and doug at a consignment store and my LO Loves IT!!! Best $5 purchase ever.

We have a giant plastic set that DD loves...it's a no name brand that I found at Ross. She has Ikea felt food but doesn't really like it and she throws the round fruit around like balls so I didn't want anything wooden. I would go for something that has tons of options, whatever the brand- more food is more fun for the kiddo and also good for vocab building!

Cutting food is the stuff that's had the longest life in our house, who knew!
We have a few sets, from Haba. We also have the Ikea fruit and vegetable baskets, they are fabric.

Melissa & Doug! Anything Velcro has been a huge hit.
We have the bday cake & the cookies. They're played with nearly every day!
I wish we had accessories. This Xmas, I want to get Chloe the m&d accessory set (the blender, toaster, etc).

So I may be in the minority here but I haven't been a fan of the MD food because the paint chips so easily.

Have you found it to be true with all the food, with normal play use?

@hilsy85: the hape and plan toy ones are great. no chipping or fading, at least as of yet and it's been about a year.

We have 2 different sets and I've put one away because it's chipping so badly that I found paint on the carpet. She plays rough and bangs them around but I would have though it would have held up better.

@hilsy85: yes, but the pantry items and red pots/pans are especially bad. The pots have left red paint streaks on my walls, even. We also have the cutting food and sushi, which have held up better, but they see a lot less play, too.

@Mrs. Yoyo: The pots and pans have left red streaks on our play kitchen and walls too. They're why I've held off on the play food, cute as they are.
