How old was LO when to started "playing" with them? Sophie is 6 weeks going on 7 and I feel like I bore her or don't do enough with her. I don't like putting her down very long and I feel like I end up putting her to sleep more than entertaining her. What did you do to entertain baby? I feel bad for her. /:

At that age, LO's awake time mostly consisted of eating and getting her diaper changed. I think there was maybe 15-20 minutes of awake time when I would talk to her, sing to her, dangle toys in front of her, etc.
it wasn't until she was about 9-10 weeks old that she could start batting at toys and seemed more interested in her surroundings. We used a play gym so she could bat at toys and she also spent some time hanging out in her bouncer.

We do lots of reading, hanging out on the play gym, walks outside, and singing or dancing to kids music. Tummy time too!

I have the same concern... Mine is 5.5 weeks and I feel like I dont play with her enough. I wave her noisy toys in front of her and talk to her. Occasionally play a little music and sing to her but it doesnt take up much time.

Babies don't NEED to be constantly stimulated. I fully believe my daughter enjoys quiet, independent time as much as I do. She's 10 months old and loves to play on her own. Give yourself a break on this one. Your daughter is fine if you set her down on a playmat and leave her to entertain herself for a few minutes.
At this age, she's really more concerned about her basic needs anyway.

We played with A right from the start. Straight after feeding/burping, I would put her in her bouncer chair in front of me and sing to her (interactive nursery rhymes where I could touch her, such as Insey Winsey Spider) or move toys in front of her for her eyes to track, or ratles for her to hear. Then when she was board of that I'd put her on her playmat and shake the animals above her head for her. She loved both of those things and I loved interacting with her so much. Now, at 12 weeks, I let her play on her own on her mat for a while too, or in her crib with her mobile going, as I want her to learn both independant play and to play nicely with us. I think Baby Centre has some good ideas for games to play with babies week by week.

Around 8 wks I think...once he began responding to us, it became much easier to play with him (talk, sing, toys, etc). Before then, I talked and sang to him, but also just kind of did my own thing and let him hang out. At that age, just existing is enough stimulation for them!
